Seward is a small but busy place, especially in the summertime which is peak season for Alaska. Located right at the head of Resurrection Bay, it boasts incredible views of mountain, sea and sky, along with easy access to the spectacular Kenai Fjords National Park. It's a great spot for those who love the great outdoors, offering all kinds of outdoor pursuits: sea kayaking, whale watching, mountain biking, hiking and more.
There is, however, also plenty inside Seward itself to keep you entertained. For a small city it has a decent nightlife, plenty of shopping options and some great restaurants. The quaint downtown area is a lovely spot to wander, as is the tourist-focused harbour precinct. Getting onboard a cruise is the perfect way to farewell the charming city and continue your Alaska adventures.
Seward cruise lines and destinations
There are several options for a cruise out of Seward. Luxury small-ship lines such as Silversea depart from the city on intrepid and unforgettable journeys. Celebrity Cruises offer premium Alaska cruises, and Royal Caribbean brings some mainstream big-ship flair to the Seward cruise schedule. Other major cruise lines also come through the area including Princess cruises, p&o cruises, and cruises with Carnival.
Cruises departing from Seward all tend to head in one direction: south along the Alaskan coast. Most finish up in Vancouver, and they visit a range of charming ports along the way. Often included on a Seward cruise itinerary are the Hubbard Glacier, Sitka, Skagway, Juneau, Ketchikan and the Inside Passage - some of these involving only scenic cruising with no shore landings.
Seward cruise port
Ships visiting or taking on passengers at Seward dock at the passenger terminal near the north end of town. The terminal itself has the basic facilities needed for cruise passengers, and there is an information office just across the main highway which opens when ships are in port.
It is just one mile or so from the terminal to the historic downtown area, and Seward Boat Harbour is even closer. The airport is only a few miles in the other direction, a short taxi or shuttle ride.
