The city

Located right down in the south of California, San Diego is a hotspot of sun, sand and laid-back fun. It's warm and breezy, friendly and fun-loving, and it's a great place to get your holiday started on the right foot. Although overshadowed by Los Angeles and San Francisco to the north, the city tends to charm all those who make the journey.

San Diego will keep you busy with its famous zoo, SeaWorld, Legoland and a plethora of places to eat, shop and learn. Of course, there are also the natural seaside attractions: beaches galore, the pretty harbour, surf and a plethora of watersports. A cruise out of San Diego just extends your fun in the sun, swapping city streets for ship decks and keeping the vibe going long after your departure.

San Diego cruise lines and destinations

The more traditional cruisers will love the chance to take a Holland America cruise out of San Diego, on one of the several vessels in the fleet which sail from there. Celebrity Cruises also offer San Diego departures, and their ships give passengers the opportunity to pick their own holiday style, from a basic and cheaper cruise to a premium all-inclusive package. The Princess cruise line, P&O cruise line and Royal Caribbean cruise line occasionally pass through the area from time to time.

Where might your ocean voyage take you? Cruises to Mexico are common, with some continuing into South America or through the Panama Canal into the Caribbean. Hawaii is another popular destination for cruises from San Diego, and some may head north as far as Canada or Alaska.

San Diego cruise port

Cruise ships in San Diego dock at the B Street Cruise Terminal, near the foot of West Broadway on North Harbor Drive. It is very close to the city centre, the Maritime Museum of San Diego, the USS Midway Museum, Little Italy, Seaport Village and Waterfront Park. The terminal is wheelchair accessible and a comfortable place to wait, with staff on hand to help.

The SantaFe Depot Amtrak station is a short walk from the San Diego cruise terminal, and you can also catch the light rail here on the green or orange lines. Taxis are also readily available. The airport is only 3 miles from the cruise terminal.
