Brilliance Of The Seas Overview
Launched in 2002, the Brilliance of the Seas cruise ship is the second in the Royal Caribbean's renowned Radiance class. She was preceded by the Radiance of the Seas and followed by the Serenade of the Seas and the Jewel of the Seas.
Smaller than the ships in Royal Caribbean's Oasis and Voyager classes, the Brilliance of the Seas is ideal for first-time cruisers looking to get a taste of life at sea.
The Brilliance of the Seas specs
The Brilliance of the Seas cruise ship is 958 feet long, weighs 90,090 tonnes and spans 12 decks. She can accommodate 2,142 passengers and 848 crew members, and has a cruising speed of 25 knots.
Inside the Brilliance of the Seas
Most of the public spaces on board the Brilliance of the Seas have been designed with ocean views in mind; be prepared to be dazzled by some of the best panoramic ocean outlooks in the Radiance fleet. The heart of the ship, the central atrium, is made largely of glass and spans nine storeys. Even the internet cafe, Café Latté-tudes, is sea facing.
The interior decor is chic and contemporary, thanks to a 2013 upgrade - think crisp whites, deep blues and polished wood finishings. The designers have done well to ensure the Brilliance of the Seas is up-to-date with modern technology; wifi is available ship-wide and digital signage has replaced many dated plaques.
Things to do on board the Brilliance of the Seas
Following an extensive refurbishment in 2013, this beautiful vessel is equipped with most Royal Caribbean hallmarks, such as a rock-climbing wall, a mini-golf course and a waterslide. It's no wonder she is popular among families and travellers seeking action and adventure.
Those who prefer a more relaxed cruising experience will not be disappointed. The Brilliance of the Seas has an excellent enrichment programme, featuring public seminars about a variety of topics, as well as a fully-equipped day spa which offers more than 100 different treatment options.
The nightlife is equally as appealing; the main theatre puts on regular Broadway-style shows and several of the bars, clubs and lounges feature live music and dancing til late in the evening. You'll be entertained from sunrise until sunset!
Brilliance of the Seas restaurants and bars
During the 2013 refurbishment the Brilliance of the Seas received a culinary makeover. Several new dinner venues were added, including Mexican and Asian restaurants, as well as a few more daytime coffee and snack spots.
The wide variety of eateries on board means guests can choose whether they fancy eating in a casual, self-service buffet or would prefer a fine-dining experience. Service times are also flexible; the Minstrel Dining Room has two fixed dinner seatings (6pm and 8.30pm), or guests can take advantage of the 'My Time Dining' option and reserve a spot between 6pm and 9.30pm.
The bars are well-equipped with premium beers, wines and spirits, as well as a range of top-quality non-alcoholic beverages. Whether you're in the mood for a cocktail or a mocktail, you'll find a watering hole to suit your preferences.
Brilliance of the Seas itineraries and shore excursions
Based in Dubai throughout the winter and sailing the Mediterranean in the summer, the Brilliance of the Seas offers excellent shore excursions throughout the year. The tours available will of course depend on your chosen cruise schedule, but you can expect a good mix of cultural, scenic and active excursions. Some examples include a visit to the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, a tour of the Harrison Caves in Barbados and a sailing trip off the coast of Portland.
Cabins on board the Brilliance of the Seas
The Brilliance of the Seas has accommodation options to suit all budgets, with standard cabins ranging in size from 165 square feet to 204 square feet, and suites starting at 293 square feet and going up to over 600 square feet.
All of the standard cabins - inside, outside and balcony - come with a mini-fridge, television, writing desk, safe and basic toiletries (soap and shampoo). There are several different accommodation categories available, from deluxe to superior.
The Junior Suite is somewhere in between a standard stateroom and a suite - at 293 square feet and with a 66 square foot balcony, this room offers a touch more space but does not come with access to the Concierge Club. Guests looking for the true suite experience would be better off in an Owner's Suite, where you'll have a whirlpool and separate bedroom and living areas. At the top end of the spectrum is the Royal Suite, which comes with a baby grand piano.

Entertainment on board the Brilliance of the Seas cruise ship
The Brilliance of the Seas by day
A great place to start your day is in the Centrum. This nine-storey atrium is the heart of the ship and is home to most of the enrichment activities. Relax with a coffee and plan your day as you people-watch. Other popular public spaces during the day include the Library and the Card Club.
If it's action and adventure you're after, take your pick from the rock-climbing wall, mini-golf course, basketball court, jogging track and video game arcade. These activities are great for the whole family and the perfect way to keep fit while at sea. The ship also has a fully equipped fitness centre, with cardio machines, free weights and stretching areas.
Pools and spas on board the Brilliance of the Seas
Make a splash in one of the ship's six pools or whirlpools. The main pool area tends to be relatively upbeat and family-friendly, so if you're looking for a more relaxed soak-in-the-spa type dip, head to the adults-only Solarium. Kids, meanwhile, will be in bliss at the Adventure Beach pool, which has its own waterslide.
The Steiner Day Spa offers more than 100 treatments, from aromatherapy massages to algae detoxes. Here you will also find the ship's Thermal Suite, which has heated tiles and loungers, as well as tropical rain showers, a steam room and a sauna.
Brilliance of the Seas nightlife
With 16 bars and lounges to choose from - all of which have no cover charge - as well as a theatre and a casino, there's no shortage of ways to spend your evening. The Pacifica Theatre is home to Broadway-style shows and also hosts comedians, magicians and musicians, depending on the schedule.
Each of the bars have a slightly different atmosphere; guests can choose from relaxed, cigar-lounge environments to upbeat night clubs. The R Bar has a distinctive 1960s vibe and is the perfect spot for a cocktail, meanwhile the Starquest nightclub is where you'll find a busy dance floor.
The Brilliance of the Seas for families
Families will have a fantastic time on board the Brilliance of the Seas cruise ship. There are several youth-oriented areas and programmes, from the Adventure Beach Kids' Pool to the Fuel Teen Club. Families are also welcome to make the most of public facilities such as the rock-climbing wall, sports courts and mini-golf course.
The Adventure Youth Ocean Programme and the Royal Babies & Tots Nursery are both complementary childcare services. Run by trained, friendly staff, these programmes put on a range of activities for your little ones. Children are split into five different age groups, to ensure the activities are age-appropriate.
Parents who want to enjoy a night out sans kids can book either in-cabin babysitting or group babysitting for an hourly rate. Please note that children must be at least three years old and potty trained to be eligible for this service.
