Regal Princess Overview
Launched in 2014 and christened by the original cast of the Love Boat, the Regal Princess is a medium to large sized cruise ship. This beautiful vessel exudes charm, elegance and shares many similarities with her sister ship, the Royal Princess, which was launched in 2013 by Princess cruises.
The Regal Princess specs
Measuring 1,083 feet in length and weighing 141,000 tonnes, the Regal Princess is one of the 20 largest cruise ships in the world. She can accommodate 3,650 passengers and 1,346 crew, and her activities span 17 decks.
Inside the Regal Princess
Step inside the Regal Princess' beautiful Italian-style atrium and you'll see why it was awarded 'Best Atrium Design' by Travel Weekly. The social heart of the ship, this stunning area is warm and welcoming, with tasteful wood and marble finishings. It is also 50 per cent larger than the atriums on other Princess vessels, with more space for entertainment and dining.
Another design highlight is the 'SeaWalk'. This glass-bottom walkway has breathtaking views of the ocean beneath.
Things to do on board the Regal Princess
The sheer number of activities available on board the Regal Princess is nothing short of impressive. From enrichment lectures to trivia competitions, you'll find everything you'd expect from a large cruise ship, and more. Live entertainment is of a particularly high quality and can be found somewhere throughout the ship at nearly all hours.
As the Regal Princess is a large ship, it's a good idea to play your days carefully. This is easily done thanks to a few forward-thinking features. For example, seminars about different port destinations are recorded so you can watch them from the comfort of your own stateroom. Another stroke of genius is the free Princess@Sea Messenger App, an easy way to communicate with fellow passengers and organise social outings.
Regal Princess restaurants and bars
The Regal Princess has a good mix of complimentary dining venues and specialty restaurants, so you can be sure to find an eatery to suit your tastes. Of the three main dining rooms, two offer 'Anytime Dining' between 5.30pm and 9.30pm. The Allegro Dining Room has two fixed seating times: 5.45pm and 8.15pm.
Most of the menus comprise of modern classics, such as soups, salads, pastas, grilled meats and so forth. If you'd like to try something a bit different, look out for meals that are part of the ship's 'Regional Caribbean Cuisine' initiative. In a bid to teach passengers more about Caribbean destinations, some eateries are serving popular Caribbean favourites such as jerk chicken.
No matter where you eat, be sure to leave room for something sweet. The Regal Princess has partnered with Master Chocolatier Norman Love, and his delicious treats can be found throughout the ship. You can even have a 'chocolate spa treatment' at the Lotus Spa!
There is also a great range of bars to choose from. A good place to start your evening is in Bellini's Bar, an Italian-style venue located in the Atrium. This is the perfect place for a pre-dinner beverage. While you are there, see if you can sample a Seawitch Craft Beer - a pale ale brewed exclusively for Princess cruises.
Regal Princess itineraries and shore excursions
The Regal Princess has a busy schedule, splitting her time between Europe, America and the Caribbean. The shore excursions available will therefore depend on your chosen destination. You can expect a wide variety of tours to choose from, with options to suit all interests and activity levels. Some examples include snorkeling in the Bahamas, a canal cruise in Rotterdam and a tour of Kronborg Castle in Copenhagen.
Cabins on board the Regal Princess
The Regal Princess has accommodation options for all budgets and preferences. If you'd love to wake up to the sight of the ocean every morning, you'll be happy to hear that 81 per cent of the staterooms available have balconies, so you have a great chance of securing a room with a view. Standard balcony cabins range from 222 square feet to 333 square feet (including the balconies). A slightly more affordable option is the interior cabins, which measure from 166 square feet to 175 square feet. Please note there are no oceanview cabins on the Regal Princess.
All cabins are beautifully decorated and equipped with a flatscreen television, safe, mini-fridge, phone, writing desk and chair, as well as a few special touches, such as 100 percent Egyptian linens and adjustable showerheads.
At the other end of the spectrum are the suites. Ranging from 299 square feet to 682 square feet in size (including balconies), the suites are available in four main categories: Mini, Penthouse, Premium or Owner's. The main advantage of staying in a suite is more space, including separate living areas, as well as a bath tub. There are three main pool areas on board the Regal Princess; the largest is the Fountain Pool, located on Deck 16, while the slightly smaller Terrace Pool and the adults-only Retreat Pool are both located on Deck 17. The Fountain Pool is family-friendly, with shallow splash areas and plenty of deck space.
The Lotus Spa is located on Deck 5 near the Atrium and has 18 treatment rooms. The Lotus Spa is also home to the Enclave, which has heated beds, sensory showers and a hydrotherapy pool.
If you'd like to keep up your fitness while you're at sea, the Regal Princess has no shortage of spaces to work up a sweat. The jogging track is located on Deck 18 and is open to both runners and walkers, and you can find the fitness centre on Deck 17. Also on Deck 18 are the sports courts.
Regal Princess nightlife
If you thought there were plenty of activities during the day, wait until night falls. The Regal Princess is absolute heaven for night owls, with entertainment options to suit everyone. A must-do during your cruise is Discovery Under the Stars, a fantastic collaboration between Princess and the Discovery Channel. Located on the Top Deck, this facility is the perfect place to admire the stars, study the moon, identify constellations, search for meteors - the list goes on.
Other popular evening venues include the Princess Theater (home to signature production shows), the Sea View Bar (featuring flare shows), Movies Under the Stars (an outdoor cinema by the pool) and Club 6 (for late-night dancing). The Princess Casino has slot machines and facilities for games such as poker, blackjack and roulette.
The Regal Princess for families
Families are welcome on board the Regal Princess. There are organised activity programmes for children aged 3 to 17 years old in the youth area (Deck 17), as well as a range of family-friendly activities throughout the ship.
The programmes are organised by age: the Princess Pelicans for ages 3 to 7, Shockwaves for ages 8 to 12 and Remix for ages 13 to 17. All of the activities are age-appropriate, with things like colouring and face painting for the young ones and video games and competitions for the tweens. Teenagers have their own exclusive area, complete with a hot tub, so they can come and go as they please.
While there is no in-cabin babysitting option available, parents may enrol their children in group babysitting between 10pm and 1pm each night. This is open to children aged from 3 to 12 for an hourly rate. Please note that children must be at least 3 years old and potty trained to be able to attend the children's programme without a parent present.
