Golden Princess Overview
Golden Princess Cruise Ship
Princess Cruises' lovely Golden Princess is part of the Grand class of vessels, sister ship to the Grand Princess and Star Princess. With a double occupancy of 2,590 passengers, the Golden Princess is a mid-sized ship with an intimate, familiar feel. She offers the great Princess features that the line's adherents know and love, from giant movie screens by the pool to a huge percentage of balcony cabins. Currently she sails out of Melbourne during the Southern Hemisphere summer.
Cabins and interiors
From the Grand Suite to an interior stateroom, The Golden Princess is well-appointed in light, modern Princess fashion. Despite having been in service since May 2001, her public spaces and staterooms feel modern and have been kept fresh with regular refurbishments.
The signature Princess Piazza forms the centre of the ship's public spaces, and from there spread a range of dining venues, bars, lounges and facilities to keep everyone fed, watered and entertained.
On the menu aboard Golden Princess
Let's be honest, food is what we are really here for. Did you know that the Golden Princess has not one but three main dining rooms? The Canaletto for traditional fixed seatings, and the Donatello and Bernini Dining Rooms for Anytime Dining which allows you to cater completely to the whims of your stomach and sit down whenever you please.
The Golden Princess eateries also include a range of casual options included in the cruise fare, from burgers by the pool to afternoon tea and 24-hour room service. There are several specialty restaurants for a wonderful night out.
Once dinner is over, attention turns to the ship's bars and lounges, of which there are many. They range from casual sports bars to a swanky cigar bar to the pumping Skywalkers Nightclub, offering something for everyone.
Golden Princess pools, entertainment and activities
The Golden Princess has not one, not two but four pools, meaning there is no shortage of space in the water or on sun loungers next to it. It also has sports courts, a fitness centre, shuffleboard, a putting course and more facilities to keep you active. The crew organises activities and classes, and the Scholarship@sea program keeps minds sharp.
In the evenings the Golden Princess comes alive with live music, shows and performances, Movies Under the Stars, and lots more for passengers to while away the time. The casino opens when the ship is in international waters for anyone who likes a flutter, and the top deck is where the dancing action happens late at night.
Get onshore
The shore excursion offerings for your Golden Princess cruise will of course depend on the destination! However Princess doesn't disappoint with their extensive range of tours and experiences.
Their offerings are grouped into categories for easy decision-making: Nature and Wildlife, Arts and Entertainment, Activities and Adventures, Famous Sites and Culinary Delights. On a Golden Princess cruise from Australia, you might find yourself swimming with dolphins in Akaroa or island-hopping in Fiji on a high-speed catamaran.
Cabins onboard the Golden Princess
The Golden Princess cabins and suites can cater to a variety of budgets and preferences. The ship has a total of 1,318 cabins for guests, and more than 60% of these have balconies.
Families will be glad of the Golden Princess' two Family Suites, accommodating 6 adults and four children or eight adults. Suites of varying sizes offer separate areas for sitting and sleeping, and the range continues through oceanview cabins down to the standard inside stateroom for those wanting an inexpensive option. All are nicely furnished and contain flat-screen TVs, safes, mini fridges, hair dryers and desks.

On Deck 12 you will find the heated Terrace Pool tucked away aft, and the fitness centre has a lap pool for dedicated swimmers. There are a grand total of nine whirlpools dotted around the ship, some of these in the relaxing Oasis on Deck 16.
The fitness centre includes a big area for aerobics and other classes, as well as the requisite fitness machines and free weights. There is a shuffleboard court, and a half-court where you can shoot hoops on Deck 16. Does putting count as fitness? You'll find a putting green there too.
Activities galore
As on most cruise lines, the crew will work hard to make sure you aren't bored if you don't want to be. Your onboard daily newsletter will outline what's on the schedule each day - expect to see trivia, sports tournaments, daytime movies, scavenger hunts, get-togethers for various groups, bible studies and more.
The kids will be kept busy in the Fun Zone, Teen Center and splash pool with a full-on program of activities. For those who want a quiet morning or afternoon, there is often live music in the lounges, a library, an art gallery, an internet cafe, a video arcade, and plenty of places where you can curl up with a good book.
An evening on the Golden Princess
There are two places you can go for a post-dinner show on the Golden Princess - the Princess Theater and the Vista Lounge. The former is more broadway-style while the latter is set up like a cabaret, and both host productions and featured entertainers. The other big billing each evening is Movies Under the Stars above the Calypso Reef pool.
For drinks and socialising, hit one of the many bars around the ship. These include the nautical-themed Wheelhouse Bar, the extravagant Egyptian-styled Explorer's Lounge, the Players Bar for smokers, and a few more to round out the options. The casino is found on Deck 7, and the Skywalkers Nightclub, a Princess favourite, perches on Deck 17 overlooking the ship's stern, It is reached by a set of moving ramps which add to the atmosphere of the place.

Golden Princess Overview

Their offerings are grouped into categories for easy decision-making: Nature and Wildlife, Arts and Entertainment, Activities and Adventures, Famous Sites and Culinary Delights. The ship's four pools are a great way to stay active and have some fun at the same time. The outdoor Calypso Reef pool and glass-ceilinged Neptune Reef pool are both found on Deck 14, the Lido Deck.
