Guayaquil is the largest city in Ecuador. Guayaquil features a tropical savanna climate. The climate is hot and generally humid throughout the year with little variation in average temperatures. Rainfall is heavy between January and April, during el Nino years rainfall may increase dramatically and flooding usually occurs. Typically however, rainfall is minimal from May until mid December due to the cooling influence of the Humboldt Current.
