Carnival Legend Overview

Carnival Legend cruise ship
For a legendary cruise experience, it's hard to go past a ship with the promise right there in its name. The Carnival Legend has recently become an Aussie legend, and toes the line well between North American exuberance and laid-back antipodean fun.

The ship joined fleetmate Carnival Spirit in 2014 to sail from Australia and underwent a $47 million makeover to present a fresh face to cruisers Down Under, complete with local touches. Her unique and fun venues have proved to be a hit in the market and many Australians have enjoyed a cruise with Carnival cruises.

Inside the Carnival Legend
The Carnival Legend's interiors are designed around the Carnival "Fun Ship" concept, and the ship certainly comes across as a place where you can expect to have a good time. The casual atmosphere means she fits right in down in the South Pacific.

The Legend has undergone a series of upgrades to bring it into the fold of Carnival’s Fun Ships 2.0. This means this vessel features a whole raft of exciting venues and entertainment options that Australian cruise fans learned to love aboard the Carnival Spirit.

Carnival Legend dining and drinking
The options are extensive when it comes to meal times on the Carnival Legend. From the multi-level main dining room to small eateries around the ship such as an appetizer bar, ice cream machines, a deli and a pub, all included in your cruise fare, there is something for every craving or food mood. Specialty options add some supplementary gourmet dining for a fee - and of course the complimentary 24-hour room service will fill in any gaps.

Those hoping to grab something tasty to eat without taking too much time can head to Guy’s Burger Joint or build a burrito at BlueIguana Cantina. For a refreshing beverage with a twist, the Alchemy Bar will whip up a cocktail that’s designed just for you, or if margaritas are more your style, you might want to wander down to the BlueIguana Tequila Bar.

What to do on the Carnival Legend: pools and more
The Lido deck is where you'll find the Carnival Legend's three pools. The kiddies also have their own wading pool, and the Carnival WaterWorks area includes the fantastic Australia-only Green Thunder waterslide for the thrillseekers.

The pools are a centrepoint of life onboard, but they aren't all the Carnival Legend has to offer activity-wise - far from it. With Camp Carnival, Circle C, O2 and Dr Seuss at Sea for the kids, the grown ups will be free to enjoy classes and demonstrations, competitions, bingo, mini golf, spa treatments and more. And that's just during the daytime! The Carnival Legend evening entertainment is legendary. Stage shows and productions, bars and nightclubs - dinner is just the beginning of your nighttime fun.

Carnival Legend itineraries and excursions
Summers Down Under are perfect for a tropical trip to the South Pacific islands, and that's how the Carnival Legend spends much of her time. Eight to twelve-night itineraries amongst the islands of Melanesia are her bread and butter, with the occasional jaunt to the beautiful wildernesses and interesting cities of Tasmania and New Zealand thrown into the mix.

Onshore, the fun continues with shore excursions to show Carnival passengers the best of every port. They take care of all the details so all you have to do is relax and enjoy the ride, just like you do onboard. Possibilities range from chilled-out sightseeing to action-packed adventure - ask your cruise consultant about what's available in each port.

Cabins on board the Carnival Legend

Relax at the end of a busy day in your Carnival Legend stateroom. The ship's 1,062 staterooms fit into four basic categories: Interior, Ocean View, Balcony and Suite, meaning there's a cabin to fit any budget and preference. All are well-appointed and tastefully furnished to provide a haven of privacy and serenity.

The Carnival Legend's layout is designed for sea views, with more than eighty percent of cabins offering one. It is also great for families with 53 sets of interconnecting staterooms. Regardless of category, your cabin aboard the Carnival Legend will include  plenty of closet and drawer space, a flat-screen TV, a fridge, a phone, a safe and of course, a bathroom!

  • Coffee Bar (pick up a tasty pastry with your coffee)

The Carnival Legend's entertainment options are numerous. Here's a brief rundown!

Carnival Legend pools and fitness
On the Lido Deck, you have your choice of pool to sit beside or splash around in. The Avalon Pool and Camelot Pool are separated midships by the Avalon Bar: that's where you get your fruity cocktails. Aft is the Adults-only Serenity with a pool featuring wonderful ocean views, and on the Sun Deck is the Carnival WaterWorks with Green Thunder waterslide.

Fit cruisers will love the spectacular Fitness Centre, which is tiered like an amphitheatre to offer every exerciser ocean views as a reward for their hard work. The spa pool in the middle is great for unwinding after a workout, and if it doesn't quite do the job properly there is always Spa Carnival with massages, beauty treatments and more.

The Sports Deck is encircled by a jogging track, and for something a little more fun and less strenuous, the mini golf and sports court are also found there.

Carnival Legend activities
The Carnival crew organises activities to keep everyone busy during sea days. These are detailed in The Fun Times, the daily newsletter. You can expect anything from the usual (and beloved) trivia nights and bingo to deck games, karaoke, dance classes and a range of other options.

If you need a little time to yourself, the ship also offers some solitary pursuits such as the video arcade, a library full of good books, art exhibitions, shopping and the casino.

Carnival Legend evening entertainment
The range of places to drink and socialise in the evenings is part of what makes the Carnival Legend such a "Fun Ship". Favourites include:

  • Tunes in the Piano Bar
  • Martini tastings
  • Mixologist competitions
  • Comedy acts from the Punchliner Comedy Club
  • Medusa's Lair dance club
  • Live music in the Odyssey and Atlantis lounges
  • Productions and musicals in Follies, the two-level main show lounge

Carnival Legend for kids
The younger ones certainly aren't left out onboard the Carnival Legend. The Waterworks play area is a hit with children, and perfect for family fun and togetherness with more thrilling options for the teens and adults.

Camp Carnival is the kid's program and has a dedicated area on the Upper Deck. Catered to here are those from 2-11 years of age with a range of fun activities, and on the deck below is Circle C for youngsters from 12-14, offering more age-appropriate pastimes like video games, movies, sports and dance parties.

Teens aged 15-17 have a hangout space called O2 on the Sun Deck with a non-alcoholic drinks bar, arcade, dance floor and places to chill.

Child-minding is available on the Carnival Legend in the evenings through the Night Owl program, for kids aged 1-11 years. There is a small hourly charge for this, and it is not in-cabin but in the kids areas.

Seuss at Sea is new to Australia on the Carnival Legend, and offers all kinds of cool experiences for kids from meeting characters to interactive story times. "Hasbro, the Game Show" is also available on the ship and a fun family game show for everyone to participate in together.

Cost Included Dining Options

Carnival Cruise Empire Dining Room

The Carnival Cruise Empire dining room is the main dining room onboard Carnival Spirit and offers an exquisite and cosey environment. You can enjoy a full three course menu here! It’s a fantastic experience that’s filling, but will never stuffy. Dessert’s included as well as the rest of your meal and they are all included in your Carnival Cruise fare. But don’t skip to dessert straightly, as the main course is actually the main attraction; drop in daily and enjoy a rotating menu of delectable favourites, including steak, seafood and prime rib.

Lido Restaurant

Offering a variety of casual dining options like Chef's Choice, Salad Bar, Carnival Deli and more, the Lido Restaurant on Carnival Spirit has something to satisfy your craving. With plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and food options for everyone, you can enjoy your personal favourites, while dining with family and friends. It’s also where you can find the Pizza Pirate pizza station and Swirls ice cream spots… both open 24 hours a day, which ought to be enough for anybody. Kids are gonna love it!

Guy's Burger Joint

Carnival Cruises has teamed up with the best-selling American author, restaurateur and Food Network personality Guy Fieri, to bring all the authentic appeal of a roadside burger shack to Guy’s Burger Joint, the cool poolside spot for hot burgers and hand-cut fries. Try a fresh-off-the-grill burger Guy’s way, or take it off-road to the toppings bar and truly make it your own.

BlueIguana Cantina

Nobody knows Mexican dining like a blue iguana. Well, blue iguana on Carnival Spirit at least. That’s why it should come as no surprise that the BlueIguana Cantina features freshly made tacos and burritos stuffed specially for you. Put the homemade tortillas and salsa into the mix, and you have your own casual dining experience that will make you wanna say “mmmm” (which is actually Iguanese for “more, please”).

Pizza Pirate

Tossing dough is an age-old art passed down the generations. Lucky for you, someone passed us the secret to the perfect pizza. While aboard, this is the place that will shiver your timbers and warm you to the bone, 24 hours a day, with a Margherita, Funghi, Prosciutto, Pepperoni or Quattro Formaggi pizza. Savvy? Then it’s the pirate’s life for you!

Fat Jimmy's C-Side BBQ

Your desire for a great barbie will be 100% satisfied when you cruise with Carnival Spirit. Fat Jimmy simmers sauces and serves up backyard-and-beach-cookout fare like Italian sausage, barbecue chicken breast, and of course the classic pulled-pork sandwiches. He hasn’t forgotten the details either, the sides that get your barbeque juices flowing: roasted pumpkin, coleslaw, and potato salad, to name a few. Bring everyone, because like any great family gathering, the food’s awesome, free… and there’s plenty of it.

Off The Grill

Join masters of the grill as they practice their craft right in front of you, serving up outdoor favourites like hamburgers, hot dogs and grilled chicken. Smother them with sautéed onions and mushrooms, or go traditional with some tomato sauce and mustard. Either way, Off the Grill is the perfect place to enjoy these classics by the pool.

The Taste Bar

Voyage to new destinations is always the perfect time to try new things… and The Taste Bar is the perfect place. Drop by for a taste of the flavours awaiting you at dining venues across the Carnival fleet. Pick up a complimentary appetiser before dinner for a taste of something different.

Special Diets

Carnival’s chefs are specially-trained to prepare food options for a variety of diets including vegetarian, gluten-free, kosher, Indian vegetarian, or food low in carbs, fat, sugar or cholesterol and more. So you don’t have to let your dietary restrictions restrict you from having a great time with Carnival Spirit. There are also helpful hints on our Empire Dining menu.

Carnival Cruises Kids' Menu

Kids' menu is available at most of the dining venues on Carnival Spirit featuring delicious foods along with full of fun. Even the pickiest of eaters will definitely be satisfied. You can find all the familiar options your kids love at home, such as chicken nuggets, spaghetti and meatballs, mac-n-cheese, hot dogs,  jam sanwiches and peanut butter and fresh fruit and veggies! But don't forget to tell your little ones to save room for dessert! Young'uns are going to be pretty excited with sweet stuff like chocolate brownies and banana splits. Pizza and ice cream are even available 24-hour on Carnival Spirit, though they are subject to be-time.

Cost Required Dining Options

Nouveau Restaurant

Enjoy the finest aged beef, cut, weighed and char-grilled to your exact specifications. In addition to mouth-watering steaks, a variety of other delectable main courses — like double-cut lamb chops, lobster tail and grilled fish fillet — are available.

The intimate atmosphere and extensive menu includes 17 gourmet entrées, salads, soups and side dishes. These do more than delight; they complement the season's freshest produce and the best wine lists, and are handpicked by our chefs to perfectly match the wide-ranging cuisine.

Bonsai Sushi

Check out Bonsai Sushi, the next generation onboard seafood-and-soy-sauce spot. Dine amidst expertly-pruned bonsai trees while enjoying sit-down service and an affordable menu of delectable catches… plus soups, sides, sakés and desserts. So the next time you’re taking an onboard stroll, stop at Bonsai Sushi for a roll, a box or maybe a whole ship — it feeds two, and keeps them satisfied.

The Chef's Table

Treat your taste buds to the experience of a lifetime, culminating in a sumptuous multicourse dinner hosted by one of the master chefs. Your VIP experience starts with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres for a select group of 12, followed by a tour to see the galley in operation. The evening concludes with a mind-blowing full-service dinner of amazing appetisers, entrees and desserts not found on regular dining menus. Tip: Reserve early because this once-in-a-lifetime experience has limited seating. Reservations can be made at the ship’s Guest Services desk.

Coffee Bar

Why not treat yourself to a latté, macchiato, cappuccino or whichever coffee takes your fancy, as the onboard baristas, professionally trained in Aussie coffee brewing techniques, serve up your favourites. Selections of teas are also available; savour the aroma and have a delicious homemade pastry on the side or, for an even sweeter option, stop by for a milkshake, slice of cake or biscuit.

Seafood Corner

Freshies Corner gives you a taste of the ocean with a range of tasty morsels and light meals including pots of fresh prawns or mussels, classic fish n’ chips, kumera fries, freshly grilled chicken focaccias, and the new bespoke Spirit Burger. What’s more, Carnival ambassador and Biggest Loser Trainer Shannan Ponton has worked with our ships’ chefs to design a nutritious snack – a turkey burger on a chia and quinoa bun – to add to the existing range. Freshies Corner offers the perfect option after a full day of fun in the sun. A nominal surcharge will apply to purchases.

24 hour Room Service

So you're in the mood for some good eats, but you’d rather stay in your comfy, cozy stateroom? Really, who could blame you? Simply pick up the phone and order something from our tasty room service menu. And since you get hungry when you get hungry, room service is available any time of the day (or night) and delivered right to your door.

Artists Lobby On Carnival Legend

Art Auctions

If a room full of overly serious old men paying top-dollar for priceless antique works of art is your imagination of an “art auction”, then think again! Unlike a stodgy auction house, your Carnival cruise features a series of auction events designed to turn fine art into fine fun. From the rapid-fire ‘Lightning’ action to the cheap thrills of the ‘under $500’ event, there are plenty of chances to try your hand at bringing home something great and have a blast doing it. Unlike land auctions, Carnival Cruises even hold fun interactive events like the “Guess the Price” competition. That said, the onboard auctions aren’t completely without fancy trimmings — after all, what’s an auction without free-flowing champagne?

Art Exhibitions

If you are interested in art and would like to add cultrual component to your cruise, you will always be satisfied on Carnival Legend with a series of events celebrating some exceptional works. Take part in the art-themed activities onboard or check out showcases from different artists. You can't get any closer to art like this.

Art Seminars

There are various of educational and enlightening seminars with lecture series on Carnival Legend designed for you to enter this vibrant world. The lecture will cover both thery and technique.
