Circumnavigate Australia Cruise: Around the Land Down Under
A circumnavigation of Australia is not a common itinerary, but they can be found here and there amongst the various cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean and Holland America. Generally beginning in Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne, these circle the Aussie land mass, which is called both the world's smallest continent and the world's largest island! Sometimes these will combine with NZ cruises or stop at southeast Asian ports.
Australia Cruise Destinations
Most Australia circumnavigations will stop at all of the major cruise ports around the country. On the east coast are the bustling centres of Sydney and Brisbane, and the tropical city of Cairns. Darwin along the northern coast is a hot and sunny spot which is close to the wonderful Kakadu National Park. On the west coast are the small towns of Port Hedland and Broome, the latter a pearling town with a rich history. In the southwest is the metropolis of Perth, with a friendly city centre and gorgeous beaches, and further down the coast are a few small towns which are used as ports by the small-ship lines.
The south of Australia is home to the beautiful coast between Albany and Esperance. This area is pristine and quite untouched, dotted with National Parks and beaches. Also down in this part of the country, further east, are the stately southern cities of Adelaide and Melbourne. Adelaide can offer some beautiful wine country, and Melbourne is widely known as the Culture Capital of Australia.
