Cherry Blossom Cruises: See Asia in Bloom
The cherry blossom trees of Japan are notoriously beautiful, and cherry blossom cruises are popular in the high season which runs from January to May, with most trees blooming somewhere in the middle. Typically, early April is prime time for cherry blossom cruising.
Japanese Blossom Cruises
Japan is the best place for cherry blossoms, and is also a great place to cruise in its own right- majorly modern and urban cities are juxtaposed in the country with farms and traditional fishermen.
Aomori is a cruise port and great place to see the blossoms in all their glory. The Hirosaki Castle is surrounded by more than 2,500 of the trees and is a spectacular sight when they are blooming.
In Tokyo, Shinjuku Gyoen and Ueno Park are likely spots for cherry blossom spotting, and there are more great sites in the other cities including Kyoto, Hiroshima, Fukushima and elsewhere.
Cruise Lines and Ships
There are several cruise lines which cruise Japan, including the mainstream favourites such as Royal Caribbean and Celebrity as well as the smaller luxury lines such as Seabourn, Silversea and Japanese-owned Crystal Cruises. However, Princess Cruises is putting more and more of a focus on Japan, and many of the ships seen in the region are theirs. Their "Golden Week" cruise is a great itinerary for cherry blossom viewing.
