Put a Mediterranean cruise on your travel bucket list! See history come alive in 2015- cruise Spain, France, Italy, Greece and more.

The Mediterranean Sea has it all. Beautiful beaches and scenery, awe-inspiring history, cosmopolitan cities, a melting pot of languages and culture - it is an unforgettable region. With so many things to see and do, a Mediterranean cruise definitely merits a spot on your cruise bucket list. Why not give it a go in 2015 with Cruise Sale Finder's Bucket List Sale?

Itineraries are often divided into Eastern and Western Mediterranean, each offering different, but equally fantastic, ports.

Western Mediterranean cruises

The Western Mediterranean includes a whole lot of history in a series of sparkling seaside cities. All of the major lines, including Royal Caribbean, Princess, P&O UK, MSC and Holland America, offer these popular Western Mediterranean itineraries.

In Spain, ships regularly call in to Barcelona, Valencia and Palma so guests can soak up a little sunshine and try some tapas. The French Riviera is a major feature on any Western Caribbean cruise, with its many cities perfect for sitting in a waterfront cafe and watching the glamorous world go by. Marseilles, St Tropez and Nice make up the major French ports, and the Riviera continues to Monaco - the tiny, yet wealthy city-state famous for casinos and super-yachts. Arriving into the elegant Monte Carlo Harbour is an unforgettable experience!

The western coast of Italy is also included in most cruises. From Civitavecchia and Livorno respectively, passengers can visit the amazing cities of Rome and Florence which are filled with art, history and culture. Cruise lines will generally offer transport options and tours to experience these fabulous urban centres.

Eastern Mediterranean cruises

A little less popular but equally as amazing are cruises in the Eastern Mediterranean. Holland America, Celebrity and NCL are lines commonly seen in the sunny ports of the east.

For many, the Greek Isles are the main drawcard. Ships stop at Santorini, Mykonos and other beautiful spots where whitewashed houses and mountains surround clear turquoise seas. Looking out over a Greek harbour, it is easy to feel that you have struck paradise. Many cruises also call into Athens.

Croatia and Montenegro are another highlight of the Eastern Med cruises. Dubrovnik with its gorgeous old town, marble streets and shining waters is quite a sight. The city of Kotor is equally picturesque - in fact, its stunning setting at the head of the bay of Kotor between towering mountains may make it even more so.

The more adventurous cruises will go as far east as Turkey. The ancient history on show in cities like Istanbul and Ephesus is astounding, and the unique culture is a memorable experience for all visitors.

I have enjoyed visiting as much of the world as possible over the years. Europe and the Mediterranean are personal favourites, but there is so much to see very close to our little Australasian corner of the globe- one of my top travel experiences was snorkeling with tropical fish and turtles in New Caledonia! Cruising is a fantastic way to see it all, and we hope to make booking a cruise easier for both first-timers and old salts. From ship tips to destination news and views, we will keep you up-to-date. Happy cruising!
