With a fleet of nine small luxury ships traversing the globe, Silversea is the line with something for everyone. They focus on an intimate, personal style of travel, taking you to smaller ports and more remote locations to really explore. To this end, they have traditional luxury ships and expedition ships, which are hardier for the more extreme voyages.
Silversea is an all-suite line, with a range of different ships:
- Silver Wind carries around 290 passengers
- Silver Shadow and Silver Whisper both carry around 380 passengers
- Silver Spirit carries 540 passengers
- Silver Muse carries 596 passengers
And in their specialised expeditions fleet:
- Silver Explorer carries 132 passengers
- Silver Galapagos carries 100 passengers
- Silver Discoverer carries 128 passengers
- Silver Cloud Expedition carries around 290 passengers
In the case of Silversea, all-inclusive means that the vast majority of amenities are at no extra charge. This includes the primary restaurants (there are a few specialty restaurants with a small charge), open bars throughout the ship, butler service in every suite, a mini-bar stocked with your preference of drinks, 24-hour room service and transfers from the ship into the town centre where applicable. For expedition cruises, all zodiac tours and onshore activities are also at no extra charge, along with expedition gear.
The service is a hallmark of any luxury cruise line, and Silversea prides itself on wonderful service. They have an exceptionally high staff-to-passenger ratio of almost 1:1, which certainly helps! Personalised, attentive service makes for an upscale yet laidback atmosphere, and the trained butler for each suite is a fantastic touch.
With such a range of ships, the dining venues are different across the fleet. However all meals are fine dining, thanks to top quality ingredients and a partnership with the prestigious Grands Chefs Relais & Châteaux. The main dining rooms are simply named “The Restaurant”, and additional options on various vessels include The Grill for casual dining al fresco, Indochine and Seishin for Asian flavours, Italian cuisine at La Terrazza, among others.
On a Silversea cruise, entertainment and enrichment go hand in hand. Lectures and seminars are often destination-focused, and there is always an interesting array of guest speakers, lessons and other opportunities to learn.
During the day, pools, gyms, spas and games like bridge offer plenty to do, and there is a bar or two on each ship for socializing, drinks and live music after dark.
