Escape to the ocean waves for a few days

There’s nothing like a quick getaway to refresh the mind and relax the body. Even better if it’s a short but sweet cruise - to blow away the cobwebs with fresh sea air! Short break cruises are a fantastic option for cruise lovers Down Under, so we thought we’d share a few of our favourites.

Trans-Tasman trips
Commonly running between Auckland and Sydney, these quick cruises are generally four nights long and offered by a variety of lines including P&O, Carnival, Holland America and Princess. Take a trip between Australia and New Zealand and enjoy the relaxing days at sea while the ship takes you across the ditch.

They’re a great way to combine a relaxing ocean holiday with a city break - just cruise across, explore the port of disembarkation for a night or two and then grab a cheap one-way flight back home.

Sailing from Sydney is always a wonderful experience

Themed journeys
P&O is known for its fun specialised short cruises - mostly round trips, these include a Food and Wine cruise, a Comedy cruise, and some event-specific voyages like Australia Day and State of Origin cruises. They might include speakers, workshops and other special events to fit their theme, along with all the goodness of your average cruise holiday.

Get onboard one of these for a fun few days at sea - they are perfect for groups of friends and celebrating milestones. Imagine a food and wine cruise with a gaggle of girlfriends for a hen’s night, or a comedy cruise stag do - with bars, shows and restaurants all in one place and no need for taxis, the good times would continue to roll until the ship returns to dock! The cities from which these are offered have expanded to include Auckland and Adelaide, so there are theme cruises for everyone.

Domestic destinations
With no time to make the trip to the South Pacific isles, cruise lines will often offer fun port cities around Australia as destinations for their short breaks, rather than just proscribing a loop out at sea. These include the Sunshine Coast, Whitsundays and Moreton Island from Sydney and Brisbane, among others, Tasmania, Eden and Kangaroo Island from Melbourne, and a few more combinations from various lines which provide something for everyone. Combine a cruise with a visit to one of the beautiful places around this spectacular country!

Moreton Island is a fabulous domestic cruise destination

For these short break cruises and more, use the advanced search option which can filter for cruise length, and browse to your heart’s content! Alternatively, call the team on 1300 13 41 26 - we’d love to help you get away for your mini escape!

I have enjoyed visiting as much of the world as possible over the years. Europe and the Mediterranean are personal favourites, but there is so much to see very close to our little Australasian corner of the globe- one of my top travel experiences was snorkeling with tropical fish and turtles in New Caledonia! Cruising is a fantastic way to see it all, and we hope to make booking a cruise easier for both first-timers and old salts. From ship tips to destination news and views, we will keep you up-to-date. Happy cruising!
