Cruises from Singapore: Explore the World City

Cruises from Singapore: Explore the World City with Singapore Cruise Deals

Singapore is an island, a country, a city and a port. It is modern, vibrant, worldly, multicultural, exciting and an excellent place to spend some time, be it during a cruise or before or after a cruise holiday. With two cruise terminals, it is a busy hub for cruising in Southeast Asia and the Pacific.

The Port: Asia Cruise Hub

The Singapore Cruise Centre was built in 1991, and handles over 7 million cruise and ferry passengers every year. It has facilities for customs checks, food and beverage outlets, retail shopping, currency exchange outlets, an info centre, ATMs, left luggage services and free WiFi connections. It is a ten to fifteen minute drive from Singapore's downtown area.

The Marina Bay Cruise Centre, also known as the International Cruise Terminal, is a more recent facility which was finished in 2012. It is an architectural icon and can accommodate some of the world's largest ships. It is very close to downtown, and has an MRT Station and bus stop which are both only a few stops from some of the downtown stops. It is also equipped for customs checks, and well fitted out with retail and food outlets, an info counter, left luggage services and free wireless.

Singapore City: Good. Clean Fun

Singapore is an exciting place to spend a few days before or after a cruise. It stands apart from other cities in Asia and worldwide with its low crime rate, overall cleanliness, extensive garden areas and amazing infrastructure. It also offers an amazing array of cultures, cuisines, people and experiences, as this city-state is truly a global city.

There are plenty of different districts making up the city state, which is the second most densely populated country in the world, after Macau and Monaco. The central city area may be all cruise passengers can see if they are just calling in for the day, but there is plenty there.

  • The Orchard Road shopping area is famous as a fabulous place for retail therapy, having come a long way since the 1800s when it was a country road lined with fruit trees.

  • The Riverside District is also a part of the city centre, the colonial core of Singapore with lots of history and museums.

  • Nearby Marina Bay is one of Singapore's newest districts, and is dominated by the Marina Bay Sands integrated resort, which includes a casino, a shopping mall, a convention centre and a museum.

  • For a breath of fresh air, the CBD area also includes the newly-opened Gardens by the Bay.

Further afield in Singapore are many distinct and interesting districts which are easy to explore thanks to the city's excellent public transport system. Chinatown was originally a sector assigned to settlement by Chinese immigrants, and is now a bustling Chinese heritage area. There is also an Indian- influenced area called Little India to the north of the CBD, and Bugis and Kampong, formerly the Malay districts, are now largely shopping destinations.

Cruises Out of Singapore

Cruises from Singapore offer a variety of options, both in cruise lines and in destinations. All of the main cruise lines and many of the minor ones cruise into, out of or through Singapore. Princess is planning to base a ship there in upcoming seasons.

Princess, Royal Caribbean, Holland America, Celebrity, P&O Australia and more all have itineraries departing from Singapore, and more lines have port stops scheduled in the city. The Mariner of the Seas is one of the common visitors, as are the Celebrity Millenium and the Volendam. Regent Seven Seas, Crystal and Azamara Club hold down the fort for luxury cruising with plenty of luxury itineraries departing Singapore.

As for destinations, when it comes to cruises from Singapore there is plenty of choice. Obviously Southeast Asia is a common destination due to its proximity, and these cruises visit some beautiful places including beach resorts in Thailand, Bali in Indonesia and the big cities of Jakarta and Bangkok. Some head north to Hong Kong, China and Japan and their amazing cities full of culture and food. Some cruises also head further afield to Australia and the South Pacific. Princess even has some adventurous itineraries departing Singapore and visiting ports in Asia, West Africa and Europe.
