Bahamas Cruises: Caribbean Castaways

The Bahamas are a fun-filled and tropical archipelago of islands just off the coast of Florida! The country is a well-loved holiday destination, with ambience ranging from the upscale resorts of Nassau to eco-tourism in Grand Bahama and secluded beaches on the outer islets. Thanks to the proximity to Florida, the Bahamas see numerous cruise ships in the country's ports, and it is also home to several private destinations owned by various lines.

The Ports: Nassau Cruise Deals and More

  • Nassau is the country's capital and one of the busiest cruise ports in the Caribbean. The city was once a notorious den of pirates, but it has overcome its rather colourful past to become a wonderful tropical city of tree-lined streets, pretty pastel buildings and great nightlife. Nassau is often towered over by ships docked at Prince George Wharf, which can take up to seven ships. It is very close to the heart of Nassau so passengers are able to explore on foot with no issues.

  • On the Bahamas' northernmost island is Freeport. This city is smaller and slower-paced than Nassau, and offers the opportunity to enjoy some outdoor fun. Lucayan National Park is a beautiful spot which contains an entrance to one of the world's largest limestone cave systems. Watersports are a common pastime, and Freeport has plenty of wonderful white-sand beaches. Ships dock at Lucaya Harbour, a ten minute drive from Freeport.

  • The other primary cruise ports in the Bahamas are private islands leased by various cruise lines. Castaway Cay is a Disney playground, and Great Stirrup Cay belongs to Norwegian Cruise Lines. CocoCay is exclusively for the use of Royal Caribbean and Celebrity ships, owned by the same company. It has 140 acres of beaches, shopping and activities for their passengers, and is a tender port. Half Moon Cay is owned by Holland America, and they have left it largely undeveloped for a beautiful and relaxing retreat. Princess Cruises passengers have a section of Eleuthera called Princess Cays for their exclusive use, which is your typical tropical paradise, set apart by naturally-formed pink-sand beaches.

Bahamas Cruises: Celebrity and other Cruise Deals in the Caribbean

Bahamas cruises are in plentiful supply! The Caribbean is the world's most prolific cruising ground, and the Bahamas are very close to the major cruise departure ports in Florida. Almost every  American-based cruise line runs cruises to the Bahamas, along with some others as well.

As made obvious by the name of the line, Royal Caribbean ships ply the waters of the Caribbean frequently, and are often docked at the various ports of the Bahamas. They run many short 3 night cruises to the Bahamas, a perfect cruising opportunity to those with limited time or funds. Also seen reasonably often in the Bahamas ports are Princess, Carnival and Celebrity vessels. Amongst the big ships are the occasional small ship, including the upmarket vessels of the luxury cruise lines Silversea and Seabourn.

The majority of cruises to the Bahamas originate in Florida, sailing from Fort Lauderdale or Miami. They may take in just the Bahamas cruise ports, or be part of a wider Caribbean cruise. Cruise Sale Finder has on offer all the best Bahamas cruise deals, easily searched and booked with the help of friendly cruise consultants.
