The rivalry sets sail soon.

Australia's beloved cruise line, P&O Cruises, has jumped on the State of Origin bandwagon and has set sail with a whole crowd of league lovers onboard. The only question is, will it be baby blue or maroon? We suspect they aren't picking a side - which means rugby league lovers from either and all states will enjoy an epic State of Origin cruise!

P&O have added this beloved tournament to their Main Events, which already include such favourites as Australia Day itineraries and Melbourne Cup cruises. The yearly competition between the two homegrown teams from Queensland and New South Wales is a highlight on the Australian sporting calendar, and invokes strong feelings amongst supporters on both sides - which we think will make for a fun bit of competition onboard.

P&O Cruises

Cruise to Origin

P&O's first State of Origin cruise for 2017 will depart on the Pacific Jewel from Sydney on Friday the 26th of May, stopping in at Gladstone and Moreton Island before showing up in Brisbane on the 31st for the big game. After catching all the action, you'll enjoy a leisurely cruise back to Sydney, arriving on the 2nd of June. This last minute deal will fill up fast, so if you want the ultimate State of Origin experience, you'll have to book fast!

P&O have taken care of all the details, so the passengers won't have to worry about a thing. The cruise fare includes tickets to the game, as well as direct transfers from ship to stadium.  The cruise itself is more than just transport to and from the event - it will feature past games on the Big Screen, separate supporters bars, a merchandise shop and more. There will even be Rugby League greats onboard to chat with guests.

Something for everyone

A State of Origin cruise is a great holiday compromise for those whose tastes in leisure activities are a bit disparate. The sports fans will be kept well entertained with all of the Origin goings-on, while any partners, friends or family who aren't so excited about it will have the usual fantastic cruise ship facilities at their disposal. The pool, the organised activities, the spa and gym, the theatre, the bars, and of course all the eateries are enough to keep any holidaymaker happy.

With the port calls to Moreton Island and Gladstone, the P&O State of Origin cruise is no one-trick pony. Shore tours may include adventures such as wild dolphin discovery tours, snorkelling and quad biking, making it a varied and exciting itinerary.

Sound like something you'd enjoy? Keep an eye out for P&O's State of Origin cruises in the years to come - they sound like just the ticket!

I have enjoyed visiting as much of the world as possible over the years. Europe and the Mediterranean are personal favourites, but there is so much to see very close to our little Australasian corner of the globe- one of my top travel experiences was snorkeling with tropical fish and turtles in New Caledonia! Cruising is a fantastic way to see it all, and we hope to make booking a cruise easier for both first-timers and old salts. From ship tips to destination news and views, we will keep you up-to-date. Happy cruising!
