People who love cruises and people who love ice cream are both big groups, and it makes sense that there'd be a lot of overlap. Add people who love to help a good cause, and you've still got a venn diagram with a sizeable combined area; Princess Cruises Australia's latest announcement is exciting for everyone in it.
The line intends to sell delicious New Zealand Natural ice cream on board all ships in the South Pacific region, beginning with the Dawn Princess who was recently refurbished in May and had the ice cream parlour added.
The addition will benefit more than just passenger taste buds. Princess intends to donate 25 cents from each ice cream purchased onboard to Christchurch City Council's earthquake fund, which is helping to rebuild the still-recovering Christchurch after a major earthquake in February 2011. New Zealand Natural has agreed to match the donations over the next four months until the Dawn Princess begins her summer deployment on October 23rd.
The partnership is a great match, said Princess Cruises Vice President Australia and New Zealand Stuart Allison - especially as Princess is a huge presence in New Zealand ports and crosses the Tasman more than any other line. "Our passengers will be able to enjoy a scoop of New Zealand Natural ice cream while relaxing by the pool or taking in the sea views from Dawn Princess' top deck, and all the while knowing that a little of their treat will go back to a worthy cause in one of the most popular regions that we visit."
The ice cream parlours will be added to each of the local fleet over the coming months - the Diamond Princess, Golden Princess, Sea Princess and Sun Princess. The successful New Zealand Natural has expanded from New Zealand into more than ten countries including Australia. Made from fresh, quality ingredients and cream from pasture-fed NZ cows, the ice cream comes in classic flavours like boysenberry, chocolate and vanilla as well as fun and interesting ones such as green tea, white chocolate and raspberry and Kiwi favourite hokey pokey.
Princess in New Zealand
With its fleet of five Australia-based ships, Princess will offer a grand total of 27 roundtrip cruises to New Zealand from Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, spending a lot of time in beautiful Aotearoa. Matching their ice cream to their destinations is a smart move on the part of this innovative cruise line, we think!
Why does Princess Cruises love New Zealand so much? Beyond their fabulous ice cream , it could be the incredible scenery of the Fiordland National Park, the resilient spirit of Christchurch, the vineyards of Hawke's Bay or the holidaymakers paradise that is the Bay of Islands. It might be the opportunity for a city break in Auckland or Wellington, or the convenience of a short hop across the Tasman. Whatever it is, they have definitely shown the country a lot of love, and are continuing to do so with their NZ Natural partnership.
