It's another big year for P&O cruises in 2017, with a refurbishment for the Pacific Dawn on the cards.

There are exciting times ahead for Queensland cruise lovers! The Brisbane-based Pacific Dawn has been booked in for a big refurbishment in February 2017, and will emerge refreshed and ready to face a new year of cruising.

P&O innovations
P&O Cruises have modernised their look in recent years, with the brand-new Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden and some added elements to the Pacific Pearl and Pacific Jewel. The Dawn will receive the best of all these new additions and decor, and should come out of drydock looking stunning.

Changes will include:

  • The addition of The Pantry, a food market-style buffet replacement which has proved popular in its various incarnations on other P&O vessels. A new Mediterranean outlet called Nic and Toni's will make its debut on the Pacific Dawn too!

  • Various public spaces such as the Atrium, Charlie's, The Orient and the Promenade Bar will be spruced up and transformed with the striking contemporary look similar to the Aria and Eden.

  • The Dome nightclub is set to undergo a complete revamp, which will please party-loving passengers. There will be more live music, a sophisticated new design to make nights out even sweeter.

Waterpark wonders
One very exciting feature which will be debuted in February is a new state-of-the-art waterpark. It will be the first of its kind for the P&O fleet,  with two exhilarating waterslides for the older kids and adults and a kids-only play area to keep the little ones happy and entertained - P&O have said that this area will be interactive, and we are curious to see exactly what it will entail!

P&O Cruises President Sture Myrmell has said that Brisbane cruises will be better than ever before after the Pacific Dawn's makeover. "With the new waterpark, dining options and a refreshed interior design, we're creating a great new look for Pacific Dawn which will combine some fun innovations with the winning features of our existing ships."

Are you keen for P&O Cruises in 2017? With a fresh new Pacific Dawn and the arrival of the Pacific Explorer, it looks set to be a great year. Queensland cruisers, you can also take a look at our last minute cruises from Brisbane to get in one last holiday aboard the Pacific Dawn in her current form!

I have enjoyed visiting as much of the world as possible over the years. Europe and the Mediterranean are personal favourites, but there is so much to see very close to our little Australasian corner of the globe- one of my top travel experiences was snorkeling with tropical fish and turtles in New Caledonia! Cruising is a fantastic way to see it all, and we hope to make booking a cruise easier for both first-timers and old salts. From ship tips to destination news and views, we will keep you up-to-date. Happy cruising!

I first went on the Dawn in 2012 and thought she was marvelous. I went on her in September 2016 and was bitterly disappointed how much she was falling apart. It reminded me of one of those run down motels you find on the side of the road in the middle of the night when you can't drive any further. Hopefully her makeover will bring her back to her glory days.
