It’s been an exciting journey over the last 10 years for Cruise Sale Finder. What began as two employees in the startup days to four different offices globally, the growth within our business has been a wild ride. Not only have we changed, but the cruising industry as a whole has seen some big changes. We wanted to take a look back at where we’ve come from and where we’re at now, with a few notable mentions along the way. Come along for the ride.
Let’s Go Way Back
Did you know we first started selling cruises branded as Cruises Online? This was the earliest beginnings of what Cruise Sale Finder is now. With only two staff members, Ryan our General Manager (his first cruise was aboard P&O’s Pacific Sun) and Matej (one of our original IT gurus) were the guys who loaded all the product and pricing because there were no automation tools to do it. It was hard work, but it paid off.
Within our first six weeks, we had made a profit, and within one week they knew they needed an extra staff member. It's only got bigger from there.
The Cruise Republic rebrand took place in 2010/2011, and then it rebranded AGAIN to our current ‘Cruise Sale Finder’ and we’ve never looked back. While Cruise Republic sounded pretty cool, the industry was changing and we needed to be extra clear about what our offering was. We needed to give the people what they wanted. The best cruise deals for Australians and Kiwis.
Cruise Republic served up a few cool vintage style ads like the example you see above. If it only was that easy to get your 5+ A Day.
Kiwis and Koalas
Our original website was green, yellow and had a Koala - we wanted to appeal to our Aussie customers. Merl and Pearl, our marsupial mascots who were always looking for a cruise deal were later launched as part of Cruise Sale Finder’s brand. We even created a competition to name them before they were properly introduced - ‘Merl and Pearl’ were the winning name combinations. We eventually phased the Koalas and Kiwis out to match our streamlined branding.
Important Company Milestones
- From the very beginning, we’ve been a member of the Cruise Lines International Association - Australasia (CLIA). A global organisation that takes great care in making sure their members' are successful by advocating, educating and promoting the common interests of the cruising community.
- We won the CLIA ‘New Zealand Online Agency of the Year’ Awards - 2010, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016 and 2017.
- Cruise Sale Finder was purchased by global travel business group Webjet Limited in 2016. This was a pivotal moment in our company’s history for future growth and higher visibility in the Australian and New Zealand markets.
- We added the ability to purchase flights along with your cruise in 2017 and have flight + package deals available for those needing both. This was to evolve the business and provide customers with an inclusive holiday that saved them money and allowed their holiday to be seamless.
Epic Digital Moments
We asked our fans to send us videos of their special cruise holiday moments back in 2018 - once we received the footage (and there was a lot) we went through all of it and turned some of the coolest videos into ‘The Fan-tastic Cruise Movie’. Real cruisers, showing us their real cruise adventures.
Of course, we couldn’t talk about epic digital moments without mentioning our General Manager Ryan reviewing the Green Thunder waterslide onboard Carnival Spirit.
The Present Day
Today we have over twenty-five staff in four offices - New Zealand, Australia, China and the Philippines. We’ve sent over 300,000 people on amazing cruise holidays around the world since 2008 - that’s roughly 30,000 cruises a year.
The biggest changes over the past ten years are the cruise ship changes and complete cruise experience. With new cruise ship brands like Dream Cruises visiting the Pacific we’re booking exciting new experiences for our cruisers. We’re always excited to educate our customers on sailings and new cruise brands that they may never have tried before.
Our team are professional, friendly and passionate about cruising - our vast combined cruising experience covers Australia, the South Pacific, New Zealand, Alaska, Asia, Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe. We’ve been around for a while, and we have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to cruising, which we love sharing with others.
