Good news for cruisers Down Under: yet another cruise ship is going to be based out of Sydney, starting next year. The Carnival Splendour is not only the latest ship to find a home port in Australia - it’s also the largest vessel to join Carnival’s Aussie fleet. In fact, when the Splendour arrives in December 2019, it will be the largest ship home ported year-round in Australia.
Carnival Cruise Line’s president, Christine Duffy said of the Splendour’s move Down Under, “[This] reflects Carnival’s serious commitment to the Australian market. The arrival of Carnival Splendour to Sydney represents a 66% capacity increase for Carnival Cruise Line in Australia, meaning we will be in the best position to give even more Australians the opportunity to enjoy the fun of a Carnival cruise.”
Of course, this isn’t just good news for Australian cruise fans - it’s a positive development for the whole country, as Christine Duffy noted.
“We estimate up to $1 million is contributed to the Australian market each time a ship of this size turns around in Sydney. This includes items like the fresh produce we source from local growers and farmers. For example, on a 10-day cruise, we’ll purchase almost 20,000 locally grown tomatoes and over 3,000 melons - just two of the many produce we source from across the country.”
As if a brand new cruise ship arrival wasn’t exciting enough, the Carnival Splendour will be receiving a full upgrade before sailing into Sydney. This will take into account the vessel’s new Australian guests and is set to include both a range of new dining experiences tailored to Aussie tastes and a brand new waterpark.
The Carnival Splendour will have the capacity to carry 3,900 guests, and will be taking a repositioning cruise from Singapore before embarking on her maiden voyage from Sydney in December 2019. Those looking to book a spot onboard onboard the Carnival Splendour for 2019 should check back here in March, while bookings for 2020 will open in May/June of 2018.
