Celebrate Easter at sea

Easter, in a complicated calculation involving full moons and the council of Nicea, falls around the end of March and the beginning of April each year. Far enough from the summer period that you are hanging out for another getaway, and offering a four-day weekend thanks to two public holidays, it's a great time to escape on a cruise. Easter 2016 will be no exception!

Easter cruising

The deals are now out for Easter cruises, so it's time to start searching out and booking your holiday. This year, Easter Friday falls on the 25th of March - it's an early one; be quick! Below are a few itinerary ideas to please any cruise lover:

  • This 4-night Moreton Island cruise on the Pacific Jewel departs Sydney the Thursday before Easter and returns on the Monday, minimising the amount of time you'll have to take off work. It visits the beautiful Moreton Island near Brisbane.
  • P&O are really upping their short breaks game in 2016, and they have another cruise which fits flawlessly into Easter weekend. Departing from Adelaide on Easter Friday, the Food and Wine Cruise aboard the Pacific Eden is a wonderful experience for foodies.
  • Make your Easter holiday a long one when you sail away from Sydney on Good Friday aboard the Voyager of the Seas. The South Pacific cruise is ten nights long and visits a number of favoured spots around the tropical Melanesian islands - Lifou, Mystery Island, Noumea and the Isle of Pines.

Easter onboard is a great way to unwind without taking too much leave from work! If you're worried about missing out on the celebratory aspects of the holiday, be they religious or chocolate-related, don't be - most ships have a chapel, and no end of chocolate treats. You can even bring your own eggs if need be.

I have enjoyed visiting as much of the world as possible over the years. Europe and the Mediterranean are personal favourites, but there is so much to see very close to our little Australasian corner of the globe- one of my top travel experiences was snorkeling with tropical fish and turtles in New Caledonia! Cruising is a fantastic way to see it all, and we hope to make booking a cruise easier for both first-timers and old salts. From ship tips to destination news and views, we will keep you up-to-date. Happy cruising!
