Get connected with Carnival

Carnival Cruise Line are making internet more accessible at sea - even down here in the antipodes! This month they have launched a new program of data packages which should make it cheaper and easier for Australian and Kiwi cruisers to surf the net while onboard. The variety of different plans cover all internet habits, and make it possible to connect with friends and family at home.

Jennifer Vanderkreeke, Australia Vice President for the line, said of the new packages,

"Access to flexible and affordable internet is really important for many of our guests. We know that they want to keep in touch with their friends and families and they also want to keep them posted on how much fun they're having at sea."

Cruise Wifi packages
There are three different packages which will be made available to cruisers on Australia-based Carnival ships (Carnival Spirit and Carnival Legend).

  • The Social package costs AUD$15 a day, and includes access only to the most popular social media apps and platforms: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Facebook Messenger and What's App. This is a low-cost option which is perfect for those who just like to stay in touch and upload the occasional holiday snap for those at home.
  • The Value package costs AUD$30 a day, and allows access to all sites so you can surf the net, catch up on news, read your emails and more. It does not support streaming services or video calling - for example, Spotify or Skype.
  • The Premium package costs AUD$50 a day, and offers a fast connection with access to any site. Where coverage allows, you can use this package for Skype, streaming and anything you could do at home.

There are small discounts available should you purchase any particular package for your entire cruise.

Selfies at Sea
Carnival has released something else that social media mavens will love: a "Selfies at Sea" app. It is free to download and makes your holiday snaps that much more fun.

The app purports to let you capture, enhance and string all your incredible memories into one epic, shareable movie. It will also help you to find the best selfie spots onboard, and has a range of cruise-themed filters to make that perfect sunset even more stunning.

I have enjoyed visiting as much of the world as possible over the years. Europe and the Mediterranean are personal favourites, but there is so much to see very close to our little Australasian corner of the globe- one of my top travel experiences was snorkeling with tropical fish and turtles in New Caledonia! Cruising is a fantastic way to see it all, and we hope to make booking a cruise easier for both first-timers and old salts. From ship tips to destination news and views, we will keep you up-to-date. Happy cruising!
