Victorian cruise lovers set to get legendary itineraries

Great news for Victorian cruise lovers! Carnival Cruise Line has announced that their fun-loving Carnival Legend will be based out of Melbourne for a season in early 2018 to provide a range of itineraries to the local cruising community.

With Carnival previously having focused on Sydney to the exclusion of other Australian homeports, it's an exciting development. P&O Australia and Princess Cruises already cruise regularly from the stately Southern city, with occasional departures by Holland America and Cunard too. The days of having to travel to New South Wales to get onboard are coming to an end!

Carnival Legend itineraries from Melbourne
The Legend's Melbourne season will bring south the many great attributes of a ship that's a real Aussie crowd-pleaser: the Green Thunder -steepest waterslide at sea, varied dining options, plentiful bars and lounges, the Seuss at Sea program for the little ones and an overall fun, laidback atmosphere.

Passengers can enjoy the ship on a number of different itineraries from Melbourne during February and March 2018. These are set to include:

  • Short three-night cruises, perfect for Melbournians who want to give cruising a test run - or those who are short on time!
  • An 11-night voyage across the ditch and around New Zealand's North Island, and another 10-night adventure which takes in jut Wellington and the beautiful South Island.
  • A four-night Tasmania itinerary to fit into busy schedules.
  • A cruise to the South Pacific islands over 10 nights.

These cruises will mark the first time the line has sailed from Victoria since 2013, when the Carnival Spirit offered two roundtrip itineraries from Melbourne. Jennifer Vandekreeke, Carnival Cruise Line vice president for Australia, said of the new development:

"Homeporting from Melbourne allows us to expand our offering to include more of our popular New Zealand cruises and short breaks, and also gives Victorians the chance to take a Carnival cruise direct from their doorstep, enjoying all the fun features that have made Carnival Legend such a hit north of the border."

Have you cruised on the Carnival Legend? This might just be your chance! Keep an eye out on our Carnival Legend cruise sale page where the new itineraries will soon be available.

I have enjoyed visiting as much of the world as possible over the years. Europe and the Mediterranean are personal favourites, but there is so much to see very close to our little Australasian corner of the globe- one of my top travel experiences was snorkeling with tropical fish and turtles in New Caledonia! Cruising is a fantastic way to see it all, and we hope to make booking a cruise easier for both first-timers and old salts. From ship tips to destination news and views, we will keep you up-to-date. Happy cruising!
