Carnival Cruises releases new Australia itineraries for 2016 and 2017

Carnival has released its latest program for cruising Down Under in 2016 and 2017, and those who want to get onboard one of their fabulous Fun Ships will be spoilt for choice. From short breaks to long journeys, Carnival have plenty in store for the next few years.

The Carnival Spirit has long since taken up permanent residence in Australia, and the Carnival Legend will join her again between September and April in 2016 and 2017 to double the cruise opportunities. With the Spirit fresh out of drydock in August 2015 and this new program of new and fun itineraries beginning next year, the line is raising the bar in the already-burgeoning Australia and New Zealand cruise market.

Exciting new itineraries
The classic 8-12 night South Pacific holidays, popular with families and all other holidaymakers, remain a staple on the Carnival menu. Tasmania also features, with five-night cruises to the southern wilderness from Sydney. Those looking for a long holiday will benefit from the 18-night transpacific journeys on the Legend, stopping at Hawaii, and a new itinerary which takes in the South Island of New Zealand over ten nights in January 2017.

Short breaks, family focus
The focus for many of the new Carnival cruises in 2016 and 2017 are short and family-friendly domestic itineraries which open up opportunities for more people to give it a go.  These include seven 4-night round-trip cruises to Moreton Island, and two to Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast, both new destinations for the line. Several 3-night "Weekend Samplers" with prices starting at around just $600 per person twin share are also on the roster, perfect for those who want a taste of what Carnival in Australia can offer.

Moreton Island

The Melbourne Cup also has a place in the line-up, with 6-night cruises from Sydney in November 2016 and November 2017 allowing punters to spectate in grand style.

Carnival Cruise Line Vice President Australia, Jennifer Vanderkreeke, comments, "we're keen to expand our itineraries and offer new ways for holidaymakers to enjoy the fun of a Carnival Cruise. Whether they're paragliding on Moreton Island or exploring Australia Zoo near the Sunshine Coast, we think guests will love the chance to combine some favourite Australian destinations with a fun few days at sea."

Spirit makeover
The Carnival Spirit's drydock in August 2015 has seen new restaurants and bars added - the Blue Iguana Cantina serving tacos and burritos in the pool area, Californian celebrity chef Guy Fieri's onboard burger joint, specialty restaurant Bonsai Sushi, Alchemy cocktail bar, Skybox sports bar, the RedFrog pub as is already found onboard the Carnival Legend, and more.

A big screen has been added to the freshened-up pool deck and the kids areas are shiny and new, ready for a wave of young cruisers in the coming season. The ship will even feature Dr Seuss at Sea programming to provide some extra fun for young and old. Take a look at our first-hand Carnival Spirit review to learn more about what you can expect.

I have enjoyed visiting as much of the world as possible over the years. Europe and the Mediterranean are personal favourites, but there is so much to see very close to our little Australasian corner of the globe- one of my top travel experiences was snorkeling with tropical fish and turtles in New Caledonia! Cruising is a fantastic way to see it all, and we hope to make booking a cruise easier for both first-timers and old salts. From ship tips to destination news and views, we will keep you up-to-date. Happy cruising!

And when all this renovations are done you might consider leaving, 50% of the time from Melbourne ports? Saving us all a lot of trouble, time and money.
