There are some exciting developments on the horizon for Aussie cruise fans: Carnival Cruise Line has just announced a record Australian cruise season for 2020, offering more opportunities for oceangoing fun than ever before. Sailings for Carnival’s 2020 season go on sale next month, but there are a few details that we can share before that all comes out.
For a start there are an unprecedented 77 sailings, departing from Australia to the South Pacific, New Zealand and Australia, scheduled for 2020. This will also be the first full year that the Carnival Splendour is homeported in Australia; she’ll be based out of Sydney with itineraries that include both 3 night sampler cruises perfect for those dipping their toes into the world of cruising and longer jaunts out to the South Pacific islands. Brisbanites have something new to get excited about as well: the freshly renovated Carnival Spirit will be the cruise line’s first vessel ever to base itself in Brisbane.
In yet another first for Carnival in Australia, the line will be offering a record number of short cruises (28, to be precise) in 2020. These sampler cruises give guests a tantalising taste of cruise life, without demanding too much from your wallet or calendar. These are usually three to five night sailings which depart from and return to the same port, though sometimes they will pass from one city to another nearby, like Sydney to Melbourne for example. Perfect for those who aren’t 100% sure whether cruising is for them or not, a sampler cruise will very quickly let you know whether you’ll be planning another holiday at sea soon.
Carnival Cruise Line Vice President Australia, Jennifer Vandekreeke, said that Carnival was excited to be providing Aussies with so many fun new cruising options as part of their 2020 program.
“2020 marks a significant milestone as we offer Australia the first full year of sailings onboard Carnival Splendour. Joining us down under as our newest and largest ship in Australia, we can’t wait to give holidaymakers the chance to experience all the fun she has to offer. We’re equally thrilled to announce our very first sailings from Brisbane. We know that Queenslanders will love the range of unique itineraries we’ve developed especially for them, including calls to tropical havens such as Santo, Vanuatu.”
