The Stunning Main Port of Adelaide

Adelaide is the capital city of the state of South Australia, and is the most populous in the state, with over 1.1 million inhabitants.

A city whose colonial roots still show through, it is laid out in a tidy grid with gracious colonial architecture. It is easily explored on foot, and is surrounded by 930 hectares of parklands, plus there are numerous galleries, museums and churches. Adelaide's pleasant climate makes it a pleasure to visit the beaches nearby or to sit at one of its many sidewalk cafes.

The central markets feature 48 cultures in a unique atmosphere that has survived 125 years. Rundle Mall is the main shopping precinct and has a variety of shops and eating places. The 1920s Adelaide railway station is now a casino and a historic tram takes visitors out to Glenelg beach with its own lively shops, restaurants and grand hotel. Further afield, the wine regions of the Barossa and Clare Valleys are great for day trips.
