Star Cruises is aimed primarily towards Asian cruisers, but passengers from all over the world are welcome aboard their "SuperStar" ships. The official onboard language is English, so as long as a Western cruiser is willing to embrace the various Asian cultures a little, they should have few worries getting onboard. While many things are charged as extras, they are generally at good prices and Star offers great value for money overall.
Star Cruises currently have five cruise ships and one "private party venue" ship, the Taipan. The five cruise vessels are all named after various signs of the zodiac - Star Pisces, SuperStar Virgo, SuperStar Libra, SuperStar Aquarius and SuperStar Gemini.
Star Pisces has as its homeport vibrant Hong Kong, while SuperStar Gemini sails from Singapore and SuperSatr Libra is based in Penang and SuperStar Aquarius offers cruises from Taiwan.
The SuperStar Virgo is the flagship of the fleet, and mixes East with West well, featuring pools, a gym, bars and other cruise staples along with karaoke rooms, a range of wonderful Asian eateries and excellent, unintrusive service.
There is a wide range of restaurants, both specialty and complimentary, on Star Cruises vessels - they are a great choice for foodies! The main dining rooms and buffets serve international options for a wide range of tastes, and there is also generally a poolside grill to round out the places you can eat as part of your cruise fare.
Specialty options are many and tempting! Indian buffet restaurants, Japanese spots, Chinese a-la-carte, Italian Trattorias and more mean that passengers' tastebuds are never bored.
The line has a real focus on big production shows, and they have some stunners which are all put together in-house. Along with singing and dancing theatre shows are acrobatic spectaculars, guest artists of all kinds and concerts by a range of Asian musicians.
The casino is a major gathering place in the evenings on a Star cruise, very popular amongst the usual passenger base. Each ship also has a variety of bars and lounges where socialising, drinking and amusement can take place. Another favourite pastime for passengers is karaoke, and there are generally rooms available to hire for private parties.
