Oasis of the Seas Overview

Launched in 2009, the Oasis of the Seas is the second-largest cruise ship in the world, beaten only by its sister vessel, the Allure of the Seas. This large, impressive ship belongs to the Royal Caribbean's Oasis-class fleet and is home to an incredible number of dining and entertainment venues - you'll never have a dull moment on board.

The Oasis of the Seas specs

Only a fraction smaller than her sister ship, the Oasis of the Seas weighs 225,282 tonnes, measures 1,186 feet and spans 16 decks. She can accommodate 5,400 passengers and 2,394 crew members. Her cruise speed is 22.6 knots.

Inside the Oasis of the Seas

As soon as you step on board the Oasis of the Seas, you'll feel like you're in another world. Big, bold and beautiful, this vessel is a tourist destination in itself. From the stunning tree-lined Central Park to the bustling Promenade, the ship has seven distinct neighbourhoods, all with their own look and feel. You can spend your entire cruise exploring the venues on offer! Be sure to work up a healthy appetite, as there are 25 delicious dining options on board - you'll never have to eat in the same place twice.

Oasis of the Seas itineraries and shore excursions

With regular sailings to the Caribbean and the Bahamas, the Oasis of the Seas has the perfect schedule for sun seekers and holidaymakers. The shore excursions available will of course depend on your chosen itinerary, but you can expect a wide variety of tours at each port, including activities to suit all fitness levels and interests. Some examples include an Atlantic deep sea fishing trip off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, snorkelling in the sunny Bahamas and zip lining in San Juan.

Cabins on board the Oasis of the Seas

The Oasis of the Seas is big on choice, and this theme extends to the accommodation options. Whether you are looking for a cozy and affordable interior cabin or a suite so large it resembles a small house, your expectations will be exceeded on board this vast cruise ship. There are also a few out of the ordinary accommodation options, such as cabins which overlook Central Park and the Promenade.

All standard cabins are equipped with flatscreen televisions, basic toiletries, hair dryers and ample storage space. Suites are more luxuriously decorated and come with nice extras such as exclusive access to the Coastal Kitchen.

Entertainment on board the Oasis of the Seas cruise ship

The Oasis of the Seas by day

There is an activity for everyone on board the Oasis of the Seas. From trivia competitions and wine tastings to 3D movie screenings and enrichment lectures, you'll never have a dull moment at sea. Of particular note are the ship's action and adventure offerings; with two rock climbing walls, two surf simulators and a zip line nine decks in the air, there are plenty of activities to get your adrenalin pumping.

If you'd prefer a more relaxed holiday, take your pick from one of the four pools on board, or make yourself at home in the Solarium, an adults-only retreat. The Vitality Spa is also worth a visit, offering a wide range of treatments and home to a thermal suite.

The Oasis of the Seas by night

Night owls are absolutely spoiled for choice. How does a Broadway-inspired show at the Opus Theatre sound? Or what about watching aqua acrobatics at the AquaTheater, an impressive outdoor amphitheatre featuring a pool with more than 2,000 water nozzles?  These are the entertainment highlights, but you'll also find live jazz, comedy and music in various venues throughout the ship, as well as an 18,000 square foot Casino Royale with more than 450 slot machines. Also keep an eye out for themed parties; there are usually one or two per sailing.

The Oasis of the Seas for families

Your children will be begging you to take them on another cruise after a week on board the Oasis of the Seas. This cruise ship is one of the most family-friendly vessels in the Royal Caribbean fleet. YouthZone, the kids' area, is the largest at sea, and is home to the popular Adventure Ocean Youth Programme and Royal Babies & Tots Nursery. Both of these facilities house organised activities for your little ones, from arts and crafts to karaoke competitions. At night, the YouthZone remains open for group babysitting.

There are also several places for the whole family to enjoy quality time together on board, such as the pool deck and the 3D movie theatre. Another amazing attraction for children young and old is the DreamWorks Experience, which brings to life popular movies including Shrek and Kung Fu Panda.

I have enjoyed visiting as much of the world as possible over the years. Europe and the Mediterranean are personal favourites, but there is so much to see very close to our little Australasian corner of the globe- one of my top travel experiences was snorkeling with tropical fish and turtles in New Caledonia! Cruising is a fantastic way to see it all, and we hope to make booking a cruise easier for both first-timers and old salts. From ship tips to destination news and views, we will keep you up-to-date. Happy cruising!
