The energy on a Crystal Cruise is exciting and vibrant, and the passenger base tends to be sociable and fun. It is a unique experience, and a fantastic way to cruise for any discerning traveller.
The trio of ships in Crystal’s fleet include two offering the classic Crystal experience while the new Crystal Esprit is an intimate yacht carrying just 62 passengers.
Crystal fares include many of the things which add that extra bit of enjoyment to a cruise holiday. Beverages around the ship, 24-hour room service, gratuities for the excellent service and use of laundry facilities are all part of the cruise fare. Each passenger also gets one complimentary meal in each specialty restaurant onboard, so they can try the delights of the various eateries.
Main dining rooms on the Crystal fleet are where much of the culinary magic happens. Crisp table linens, fine china, rare wines and top-notch service makes dinner quite the event - as well as the great food, of course! Traditional gourmet favourites are offered alongside lighter options, vegetarian selections and dishes for other special diets. Dinner is served in two seatings, and the buffet also operates for all meals - with waiters on hand to carry your trays.
The Asian options are the stars of the specialty restaurant show for this Japanese-owned, American-run line. Silk Road and the Sushi Bar are both wonderful spots to eat,and both big ships also feature the Italian restaurant Prego. Reservations are required for the specialty restaurants, but each person can dine in each one there once per cruise at no extra charge.
Exciting ports of call aside, there are no issues staying busy and entertained on a Crystal cruise. The line has a focus on great enrichment programs through the “Creative Learning Institute” onboard. Expert speakers and alliances with organisations such as the Tai Chi Cultural center and Berlitz language classes mean you can come away from your holiday feeling like you learnt a new skill or gained some useful knowledge. There are exercise classes, dancing, bridge and trivia, and of course the typical cruise amenities like pools, libraries and shuffleboard.
As the sun goes down, the ships come alive with fun evening entertainment and opportunities for socialising. There is a variety of bars and lounges, from low-key and classy cocktail saloons and cigar lounges to Pulse, the high-energy dance club. The Galaxy Lounge is home to broadway-style productions and other features, while the Hollywood Theatre shows recent-release and classic films. There are also casinos on both big ships.
Children and teens do have facilities available for them on Crystal cruises, a rarity for luxury lines. Fantasia (3-12) and Waves (13-17) will keep them happy with games, crafts, playstations, a video arcade and organised activities.
There are very few parts of the world you can’t cruise to with Crystal. Africa, Alaska, Antarctica, Asia, the South Pacific, Europe, North America and the Caribbean are all on the menu, and you can transit exciting spots like the Panama Canal and the Northwest Passage on the Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony.
The line also offers World Cruises and trans-ocean voyages for those passengers who want something a little bit epic!
