Celebrity Millennium Overview

The Celebrity Millennium is one of four cruise ships in the Millennium Class of the Celebrity Cruises fleet. As the flagship vessel, the Celebrity Millennium was the first to introduce exterior elevators and a new gas propulsion system. She was also the first Celebrity cruise ship to build a three-deck theatre for live entertainment.

The Celebrity Millennium cruise ship has a few impressive features on a global scale, such as the world's largest spa at sea, which is more than 7,600 square metres. It also has the largest penthouse suites of any cruise ship, as well as the largest designer boutique on board.

Guests of the Celebrity Millennium will enjoy the sheer elegance of the interior spaces, the dedication to design and comfort that is prevalent throughout the ship.

Celebrity Millennium specs

The Celebrity Millennium was originally launched in 2000, and underwent a large refurbishment in 2012 to add a number of modern features, and many upgrades that you would usually only see on Celebrity's Solstice Class of ships. There is space on board for 2,138 passengers and 975 crew members, making for an almost 2:1 ratio. She weighs 91,000 tons, measures 965 feet long and has a maximum cruising speed of 24 knots.

Celebrity Millennium itinerary and shore excursions

The Celebrity Millennium schedule is comprised of voyages to desirable destinations such as Alaska, British Columbia, Japan, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Singapore, and Indonesia. The Celebrity Millennium excursions are just as diverse, with glaciers to visit, city tours to explore, wineries to taste, cuisine to try, and history to learn about.

Inside Celebrity Millennium

After the refurbishment in 2012, the Celebrity Millennium has raised the bar for impressive interior spaces.

The glass elevators offer ocean views as you travel between the 11 decks, and the tortoiseshell onyx staircase at the heart of the ship adds an imperial focal point. Public spaces are decorated with artworks, and soft lighting paired with pale colours makes for a warm, beautiful space to travel in.

Celebrity Millennium restaurants and bars

When it comes to Celebrity Millennium food, each meal is more delicious and beautifully presented than the last. The restaurants themselves are similarly unforgettable.

The main restaurant on board spans deck 4 and 5. This dining area "the Metropolitan Room“ has a back wall entirely made of glass, offering a stunning ocean view while you dine no matter where you are seated. This dining area is where you will have the option of traditional, set seating at 6pm or 8.30pm, or the choice of Celebrity Select, which lets you choose your own seats, table companions and dining times anywhere between 5.30pm and 9.30pm.

The Olympic Restaurant is a for-fee eatery, but one well worth visiting. The menu is French inspired, and the panels are taken from the original MS Olympic, which was the Titanic's sister ship.

There are several other price-included restaurants and for-fee restaurants on board, as well as a number of Celebrity Millennium bars such as the Martini Bar and Cellar Masters wine venue.

Cabins on board the Celebrity Millennium cruise ship

There are six classes of Celebrity Millennium rooms to choose from, starting with a comfortable interior cabin right up to an exquisite Celebrity Millennium suite.

Interior staterooms come in two sizes: 170 or 240 square feet. These rooms come with complimentary twice-daily services (for make up and turn down), as well as room service, premium mattresses, 100 per cent cotton linens, a mini-bar, flat screen TV, and safe. The Ocean View staterooms offer the same size options, and have the same features plus a window so you can watch as you pull into a new port or sail out to sea.

Booking a Verandah Class cabin will get you all of the above features, plus your own private balcony. In the family-size cabins in this class, both the room and the balcony are much larger.

Concierge Class guests are treated to extra luxuries during their voyage. You get larger rooms and balconies, priority check-in, express luggage delivery, your own concierge service, an expanded room service menu, fresh fruit and afternoon savouries.

Book a stay in an AquaClass stateroom for the luxury of all of the above services, as well as exclusive dining at Blu Restaurant, daily flavoured tea, slippers, and even larger living areas.

The most deluxe option on board the Celebrity Millennium is the selection of suites. There are Sky Suites in different sizes, as well as a Celebrity Suite, Royal Suite and Penthouse Suite. No extravagance is spared in the Penthouse with complimentary beverage packages, unlimited Internet, a baby grand piano, a music centre, your own whirlpool, access to the exclusive Luminae Restaurant, a separate living area and dining room, and much more.

Entertainment on board the Celebrity Millennium

Whether you're travelling with a partner, a group of friends or your family, you won't run out of activities to enjoy during your Celebrity Millennium voyage.

Day-time activities on the Celebrity Millennium

During the day, Celebrity Millennium runs the group of activity options the fleet is famous for: Play, Learn, Taste, and Revive. Within these groups, you have an endless supply of things to do.

Keep fit in the gym or on the basketball courts, or even in a Zumba class. Check out what's in store in the many boutiques at the Emporium, read a book or two in the library, take a dip in the Celebrity Millennium pools, relax in the spa, try your luck at a bingo game or in the casino, learn the basics of a new language or a new dance style, or even take part in a 'Dancing with the Stripes' ballroom competition with the ship's officers.

Night-time entertainment on the Celebrity Millennium

Taking up three levels of the ship, the Celebrity Theatre is like any theatre you'll find on land. This plush venue is where you'll find live performances from singers, dancers, and guest entertainers throughout the cruise.

Bars such as the Martini Bar and Crush come alive at night, and the venue where you'll find them on deck 4 also offers karaoke, making for a fantastic night of singing and dancing with a few delicious cocktails in the mix.

By night, one of the public areas 'Cosmos' is transformed into a disco-like night club for dancing. Three of the walls in Cosmos are glass, adding incredible views to your evening's entertainment.

Children on board the Celebrity Millennium

Kids aged under 3 years can spend time (with parental supervision) in the Toddler Time group, and children beyond that are divided into age groups of 3-5, 6-8 and 9-11 for the Fun Factory kids' clubs. Those aged 12-17 have access to the age-appropriate X Club from 9am to 10pm every day, which has the latest gaming consoles, as well as sports events and late-night dances.

Note that babies must be at least 6 months of age for any Celebrity Cruise, and the minimum age limit for transatlantic or transpacific cruises is 12 months.

I have enjoyed visiting as much of the world as possible over the years. Europe and the Mediterranean are personal favourites, but there is so much to see very close to our little Australasian corner of the globe- one of my top travel experiences was snorkeling with tropical fish and turtles in New Caledonia! Cruising is a fantastic way to see it all, and we hope to make booking a cruise easier for both first-timers and old salts. From ship tips to destination news and views, we will keep you up-to-date. Happy cruising!
