Celebrity Equinox Overview

Launched in 2009, the Celebrity Equinox is the second of five ships in the Celebrity Solstice Class. She was preceded by the Celebrity Solstice and followed by Celebrity Eclipse, Celebrity Silhouette and Celebrity Reflection.

This beautiful ship spends most of her time exploring the Caribbean and Europe. She attracts a mature crowd throughout the year, but is also popular with young families during the school holidays and summer months.

During summer and the school holidays she is popular with young families, however at most other times the average age on board is in the mid-50s.

The Celebrity Equinox specs
Measuring 1,041 feet in length and weighing 122,000 tonnes, the Celebrity Equinox is the perfect size for short to medium trips. She has a maximum occupancy of 2,850 passengers.

Inside the Celebrity Equinox
Like her sister vessels from Celebrity cruises, the Celebrity Equinox draws inspiration from the sun. The entire ship is designed to let in as much natural light as possible. The result? Bright, airy rooms and spectacular sea views nearly everywhere you look. Even the elevator roofs are made of glass, giving you a glimpse of sun and sky every time you move between floors.

The interior decor also draws inspiration from nature, with several green spaces on board. There is the Lawn Club - one of Celebrity's signature features - which is a grassy area resembling a lovely inner city park. The adults-only Solarium pool on Deck 12 is also home to a living wall of plants.

Things to do on board the Celebrity Equinox
Whether you're in the mood for pampering, live entertainment, delicious food, relaxing by the pool, learning something new, getting fit or all of the above, the activities on the Celebrity Equinox will likely exceed your expectations The ship is renowned for its friendly, helpful service, so if in doubt, one of the many crew members will help you find an activity to suit your interests.

A good place to start your day is at the Grand Foyer, the ship's large, light atrium, spanning across decks 3, 4 and 5. This is the heart of the vessel, a great place to meet friends, grab a coffee or seek advice from the helpful crew.

Once you have oriented yourself with the ship's wide array of activities, the choice is yours. Shop yourself silly at the extensive range of boutique shops (including a new Michael Kors retailer) on Deck 4, or head to the Corning Museum of Glass Pavilion to witness a live glassblowing demonstration. Be sure to keep an eye out for live performers along the way; there is often musicians playing by the pool or in the casino.

Celebrity Equinox restaurants and bars
With ten mouthwatering eateries to choose from, you'll never need to eat the same thing twice! The ship caters to all tastes, with restaurants specialising in Asian fusion, American and Italian cuisines. You'll also find all of your favourites at Oceanview Cafe, the ship's self-service buffet, and the Mast Grill, a poolside joint offering afternoon snacks such as burgers and hot dogs. Most restaurants have vegetarian, gluten-free, dairy-free and sugar-free options.

Those staying in AquaSpa cabins will also have exclusive access to Blu Restaurant, which serves healthy, light options such as soups and salads. The AquaSpa class is perfect for cruisers looking to focus on their health and wellbeing when at sea.

Wherever you eat, be sure to save some room to sample some of the exquisite beverages available at the ship's bars and lounges. You definitely need to try a frozen cocktail from Slush -  this new bar was added to the ship during a 2014 refurbishment and has quickly become a firm favourite. Non-alcoholic options are available here.

Celebrity Equinox itineraries and shore excursions
Spending most of her time exploring Europe and the Caribbean, the Celebrity Equinox offers a number of appealing shore excursions. Whether you are in the mood for adventure or would prefer to take it easy, you'll find a tour suited to your needs.

The available trips will of course depend on your cruise route, but a sampling of shore excursions include a visit to the Acropolis in Athens, a Game of Thrones tour in Dubrovnik and swimming with dolphins at the Chankanaab National Marine Park in Cozumel, Mexico.

The Celebrity Equinox by day: pools, fitness facilities and activities
Deck 12 is home to the ship's two plunge pools, as well as several hot tubs, showers and sun loungers. These pools are family friendly - if you'd prefer an adults-only dip, head to the Solarium. This adults-only retreat is decorated with gorgeous indoor plants and is the epitome of relaxation. Why not follow this up with some pampering at the Canyon Ranch SpaClub?

Also located on Deck 12 is the fitness centre, featuring all of the latest sports equipment, from cardio machines to free weights. Here you'll also find several group fitness classes, including Zumba and yoga. Another great place to keep up your fitness is the basketball court on Deck 15.

Those who'd prefer to flex their minds as opposed to their muscles might be more at home in one of the ship's enrichment classes. Brush up on your French language skills or learn a new craft. For something different, head to the Celebrity iLounge, the first authorized Apple specialist at sea, where you can learn your way around an Apple device.

Celebrity Equinox nightlife
A highlight of any cruise is the chance to enjoy some superb live entertainment, and the shows and music on board the Celebrity Equinox cruise ship do not disappoint. The Equinox Theatre usually puts on at least two performances every night, from original production shows to comedy acts.

Another nighttime hot spot is the Sky Observation Lounge. Offering sweeping views of the ocean, this gorgeous room plays host to live music, dancing and themed parties. Be sure to check the ship's entertainment schedule as you don't want to miss out on these fun, social evenings.

If in doubt, you can always be sure of a good night in the Casino, or one of the many bars and lounges, such as Michael's Club, known for its excellent selection of bottled beers, and the Sunset Bar, perfect for - you guessed it - watching the sun go down over the ocean.

Celebrity Equinox for families
The Celebrity Equinox is a family-friendly vessel all year round, but especially during sailings to the Caribbean. Nothing quite beats a sunny holiday filled with snorkelling, swimming and quality family time.

Children can choose from a wide variety of entertainment options at the ship's designated youth area on Deck 15. Here you will find the 'Fun Factory' for 3 to 11 year olds, as well as 'XClub', the teen hangout. Both areas feature plenty of age-appropriate activities, from scavenger hunts for the young ones to video games for the teenagers.

Parents have the option to enjoy lunch and dinner without the kids; these meals are provided for children aged 3 to 11. 'Slumber parties' are also a cost-effective group babysitting option at night. In-cabin babysitting is available for a maximum of two children - the minimum age for this service is 12 months.

I have enjoyed visiting as much of the world as possible over the years. Europe and the Mediterranean are personal favourites, but there is so much to see very close to our little Australasian corner of the globe- one of my top travel experiences was snorkeling with tropical fish and turtles in New Caledonia! Cruising is a fantastic way to see it all, and we hope to make booking a cruise easier for both first-timers and old salts. From ship tips to destination news and views, we will keep you up-to-date. Happy cruising!
