Sailing to and around the exquisite small islands of Fiji, Captain Cook Cruises Fiji (not to be confused with Captain Cook Australia) is a unique and wonderful way to cruise. The line bills their range of itineraries as voyages of discovery, and they are just that. Passengers will truly get to know the islands they visit, along with their friendly local people.
The small ship provides an intimate and friendly holiday, taking advantage of a beautiful setting. If you are looking for an easygoing getaway with opportunities for activity and relaxation in equal measure, you can't go past a Captain Cook Fiji cruise.
Most Captain Cook Fiji overnight cruises take place on the lovely Reef Endeavour. Originally built to explore Australia's Great Barrier Reef, the ship moved to Fiji in 2010 where her relatively small size and open decks are perfect for island-hopping. The Reef Endeavour was refurbished in 2013 and is looking smart.
With a swimming pool, sun deck, two lounges, sauna, gym and library, the ship has plenty of low-key options for keeping busy. In addition, there are kayaks, snorkelling and dive vessels and a glass-bottomed boat which are used when moored. Note: Scuba diving costs extra.
Most entertainment takes place onshore, with organised activities, water sports, village visits and more all on the agenda. Onboard, the evenings are diverse in their entertainment offerings: singing, dancing, hermit crab racing, crew fashion shows and movies under the stars are common. The passenger involvement in these shows and games encourage connections to be made.
Fiji's fresh produce is used to full advantage on the ship, with great results. Buffet breakfasts and lunches served in the Captain's Lounge and by the pool have a variety of hot and cold choices, always with colourful tropical fruit. Salads and seafood feature heavily at lunchtime.
Dinner is generally an a-la-carte affair, with the occasional buffet evening. Chefs shop at local markets to bring their creations to the table. Menus might include baked fish fillets, steaks, vegetarian options, and many other dishes - and there are always delicious desserts.
Captain Cook cruises depart from Port Denarau on the island of Viti Levu and from there sail to a range of different destinations, mostly the smaller offshore islands. The Yasawa Islands chain is a popular one, and the line offers 3, 4 and 7-night itineraries exploring this lovely part of the South Pacific.
The line also offers week-long voyages north to Vanua Levu and the islands near there, called Colonial Fiji Discovery Cruises, and a similar one called the 4 Cultures Cruise. These include some wonderful moments of history and culture as well as the natural beauty of Fiji.
