The Pacific Explorer brings all of the favourite P&O features to the market on a larger scale, and they are sure to continue to please legions of Aussie cruisers. However, upon exploring the Explorer one might find a few things that are new to the line - including a swish new cocktail bar that is a bit different to your typical cruise ship watering hole.
On land, the concept of small, hidden and intimate bars is a popular one - and it’s easy to see why! It’s fun, it’s exclusive and it adds a little mystery to your night out. The speakeasy concept has proven to be a fun one, and we’re glad that P&O has embraced it for their unique new venue.
Rob in the Cruise Sale Finder team visited recently and said it takes some finding, but is well worth the visit - and it felt like he was “somewhere different.” It should be a welcome addition for those P&O repeat cruisers who have visited all of the line’s classic watering holes.
The decor adds to the secluded and intimate feel of The Bonded Store, with plush armchairs, cozy seating and quirky vintage touches.
A perfect Aussie partnership
The Bonded Store is not all show and no substance, in fact what’s on the menu is solidly its best asset. The cocktails have been born from a partnership between P&O and the Archie Rose Distilling Co., and each drink features the handcrafted spirits of the Sydney-based distillers. The story goes that P&O president Sture Myrmell visited the Archie Rose bar one day and thought he’d like a bit of that on their ships - and made it happen!
It’s not just drinking that will happen in The Bonded Store however - passengers can also attend gin and whiskey-making masterclasses. Okay, that’s drinking related, but it’s also educational - especially when run by the Archie Rose experts!
Do you have any plans to explore the Pacific Explorer during the upcoming summer season? We’d love to hear what you think of The Bonded Store and other venues onboard - if you can find it, that is!
