P&O have added this beloved tournament to their Main Events, which already include such favourites as Australia Day itineraries and Melbourne Cup cruises. The yearly competition between the two homegrown teams from Queensland and New South Wales is a highlight on the Australian sporting calendar, and invokes strong feelings amongst supporters on both sides - which we think will make for a fun bit of competition onboard.
Cruise to OriginHaving departed this weekend aboard the Pacific Dawn, the cruise heads from Brisbane across to nearby Moreton Island, then visits Newcastle after a day spent at sea. The highlight, however, comes the next day. On June the 1st, the ship docks in Sydney and passengers will disembark to enjoy the first game of the Origin series, played at ANZ Stadium. The ship then returns to Brisbane, arriving on the 4th of June after a fabulous week.
P&O have taken care of all the details, so the passengers won't have to worry about a thing. The cruise fare includes bronze tickets to the game, as well as direct transfers from ship to stadium. The cruise itself is more than just transport to and from the event - it will feature past games on the Big Screen, separate supporters bars, a merchandise shop and more. There will even be past players from both teams onboard to chat with guests.
Something for everyoneA State of Origin cruise is a great holiday compromise for those whose tastes in leisure activities are a bit disparate. The sports fans will be kept well entertained with all of the Origin goings-on, while any partners, friends or family who aren't so excited about it will have the usual fantastic cruise ship facilities at their disposal. The pool, the organized activities, the spa and gym, the theatre, the bars, and of course all the eateries are enough to keep any holidaymaker happy.
With the port calls to Moreton Island and Newcastle, the P&O State of Origin cruise is no one-trick pony. Shore tours such as wild dolphin discovery tours, snorkelling and quad biking on the island and Hunter Valley wine trails from Newcastle make it a varied and exciting itinerary - and there are even alternative activities available in Sydney!
Sound like something you'd enjoy? Keep an eye out for P&O's State of Origin cruises in the years to come - they sound like just the ticket!
