Summer of 2017/2018 will be Royal Caribbean-heavy.

Your chances of finding the perfect fun, family-friendly cruise in and around Australia have just gotten better. Royal Caribbean has released some details of its 2017/2018 program, and there is plenty to keep Aussie cruisers happy.

Bookings for the new season of cruises open on the 21st of April. Adam Armstrong, managing director of Royal Caribbean Australia, says of the release: "We've been bringing the newest and very best cruise ships to Australia since 2007 and we're committed to continuing to offer Australians the international style of cruise ship they deserve and expect from Royal Caribbean, right from our doorstep."

Royal Caribbean Australia 2017/2018: Which ships?

As well as the megaship Ovation of the Seas embarking on a second season Down Under, the Explorer of the Seas, Voyager of the Seas and Radiance of the Seas will take Aussie cruisers on unforgettable voyages in the South Pacific and surrounds. The program includes a grand total of 66 sailings across these four ships - and onboard, passengers will enjoy facilities like surfing and skydiving simulators,  mini golf, bumper cars, broadway-style shows, and world-class dining including Jamie's Italian and gastro pubs.

Royal Caribbean cruise in Australia

The summer in question will see Australia wishing a farewell to the Legend of the Seas which has made a home in Brisbane for two consecutive seasons. She will be based there again for the coming summer of 2016/2017, then make her way to Europe in May 2017. The Legend is currently the only Royal Caribbean ship which can dock at Portside in Brisbane - so the line welcomes a proposal for a new Brisbane cruise terminal at the mouth of the river in the future and plan to return then to homeporting in Queensland.

Armstrong commented, "Legend of the Seas will sail from Brisbane for one final season in the summer of 2016/17 but we will continue to bring holidaymakers into Brisbane, Cairns and other Queensland ports on a regular basis on our other ships, including Ovation of the Seas."

Which destinations?
The four-strong Royal Caribbean fleet will offer a range of favourite destinations, heading across the Tasman, out into the Pacific and even up towards Asia. Here are the highlights:

  • Ovation of the Seas: In her second Australian season, this amazing modern megaship will sail nine different itineraries, mostly departing Sydney. These include a 14-night repositioning journey from Singapore to Sydney, a Christmas cruise to New Zealand and a classic New Caledonia and Vanuatu cruise.
  • Explorer of the Seas: Specialising in South Pacific itineraries, this ship will visit New Caledonia, Vanuatu and Fiji as well as journeying to Tasmania. An epic repositioning cruise from Seattle to Sydney via Hawaii and other island hotspots kicks it all off.
  • Voyager of the Seas: After a trip from Singapore to Fremantle and a lengthy “round Australia and New Zealand” cruise, the Voyager will sail a range of cruises to the South Pacific as well as a few short breaks.
  • Radiance of the Seas: Sailing from Sydney, Auckland and Fremantle over the 2017/2018 season will give the Radiance plenty of variety in itineraries. Destinations will include New Zealand, Queensland and Tasmania, after a repositioning cruise from Honolulu to Sydney.

Royal Caribbean cruises are becoming classic holidays in Australia and New Zealand, known for their extravagant decor, action-packed activity schedules, and endless fun in the sun. The new itineraries will be on sale later in April, so keep a look out for these and more.

I have enjoyed visiting as much of the world as possible over the years. Europe and the Mediterranean are personal favourites, but there is so much to see very close to our little Australasian corner of the globe- one of my top travel experiences was snorkeling with tropical fish and turtles in New Caledonia! Cruising is a fantastic way to see it all, and we hope to make booking a cruise easier for both first-timers and old salts. From ship tips to destination news and views, we will keep you up-to-date. Happy cruising!
