Western Australians were the first to get a glimpse

P&O cruises have been counting down to the expansion of their fleet for a while now, and it's just over the horizon. Although the big "five ship spectacular" welcome party and ship christening won't take place until the 25th of November, one of the dynamic new duo has already begun her maiden voyage.

After receiving some final touches during a week spent berthed in Fremantle, the Pacific Eden left on Sunday the 15th to make her way around the bottom of Australia in time to join the party in Sydney next Wednesday. Ports of call during the journey will include Esperance, Adelaide, Kangaroo Island and Melbourne - so keep an eye out for her distinctive dark hull if you're planning to be in any of those places over the next week!

Western Australia is sometimes a little neglected on the cruise front, but the Pacific Eden's presence there is a sign of things to come. She will spend a lot of time in Fremantle, offering cruise lovers on that side of the country some exciting itineraries with a season there in 2016 and another in 2017. From short breaks visiting Margaret River to long Indonesia journeys, there are plenty of good things to come.

Senior Vice President Sture Myrmell commented, "Western Australia is really coming into its own both as a cruise destination and a homeport, so we're thrilled to have the capacity to be able to base one of our latest ships in Fremantle for the next two summers. Pacific Eden is sure to become a fast favourite amongst Western Australians as she offers an exciting line up of cruises from the state, giving local tourism a boost and bringing a wealth of economic opportunities to port towns up and down the coast."

The Pacific Eden, along with her sister ship the Pacific Aria, will feature a range of exciting features new to P&O and the Australia cruising scene. One of these is the Pantry food market, already available on the Pacific Jewel. Passengers on the Pacific Eden right now will be experiencing for the first time the brand-new Angelo's and Dragon Lady specialty restaurants, the Open Kitchen culinary experience, the Penthouse suites and the contemporary resort-style designs of the public spaces.

I have enjoyed visiting as much of the world as possible over the years. Europe and the Mediterranean are personal favourites, but there is so much to see very close to our little Australasian corner of the globe- one of my top travel experiences was snorkeling with tropical fish and turtles in New Caledonia! Cruising is a fantastic way to see it all, and we hope to make booking a cruise easier for both first-timers and old salts. From ship tips to destination news and views, we will keep you up-to-date. Happy cruising!
