Shannan works out on Carnival Cruises

Life's a fitness Carnival for Shannan

Carnival Cruises have devised an ingenious plan to get your heart pumping onboard, with the help of fitness guru Shannan Ponton. So make sure you pack your gym gear!

He is the health expert who physically drives Australia's The Biggest Loser contestants to places they've never been, and in his role as Carnival's first Australian ambassador, Shannan will be on the Carnival Spirit ship to offer help and advice during two South Pacific cruise packages in July and August:

  • July 23: New Caledonia and Vanuatu, a nine-night cruise departing Sydney
  • August 12: New Caledonia, eight-night cruise departing Sydney
Shannan first came to the attention of Australia in 2007 when he trained the blue team in the hugely successful Biggest Loser TV programme, which has been adapted in more than 25 countries. The reality show began in the US 10 years ago, focusing on overweight contestants trying to lose their extra pounds for a cash prize, and has become a global phenomenon.

Shannan's high-energy approach has brought him thousands of fans, with nearly 40,000 likes on his Facebook page and 27,000 followers on Twitter. An expert on nutrition as well as exercise, he will be holding motivational talks, taking the occasional class and be involved in some group activity on the July and August cruises.

His first Carnival Spirit adventure was back in March, when he surprised passengers already in the gym with an impromptu spin class. He then held what has been called the biggest boot camp at sea on the top deck, with 500 guests taking part. And he's very excited about hitting the ocean wave once more:

"There's so much to do, I'm busting to get back onboard with my family. I'm going to hit the gym first thing for a spin class, or a circuit, then maybe an abs class. Then I'll relax on deck with a cold drink, and of course play some mini-golf with my son too. There's always something for everyone to do."

Shannan's first Carnival boot camp was a huge success.

He's also taking a look at the food onboard, helping design nutritious snacks and guiding guests towards healthier selections on the menu. And Carnival are delighted with the impact Shannan has already had.

"We're letting Australians know that a Carnival cruise is a great option for a fit and fun holiday" said Vice President Australia, Jennifer Vandekreeke. "We offer plenty of healthy and entertaining options."
